Oluchi Okananwa Oluchi Okananwa 5'10" | CG Worcester Academy | 2023 State NewE -5’9 G (Worcester) MA- Duke
Okananwa was one of many players I saw for the first time at the event and she immediately grabbed my attention by playing the passing lane. I also liked her court vision, especially in the open court and her change of pace going full speed was equally impressive. She attacked from multiple angles, showed good body control on her finishes, and dropped the jumper
Mary Ashley Groot Mary Ashley Groot 6'1" | SF Dalton | 2023 State NY -6’2 F (Dalton) NY- Purdue
Groot used her body well inside the paint as she did a good job sealing whoever was guarding and finished strongly around the rim after contact. That included putbacks, yes, she rebounded on both ends and ran the floor well but she also did a good job attacking from the wing, plus she’s “long and athletic” and that is the base
Jade Clack Jade Clack 6'1" | SF Austin | 2023 State TX -6’1 F (Austin) TX-TCU
Clack is also long and athletic and scored numerous times attacking the basket from multiple angles as well as straight down the middle. She became one of the most improved players I saw going into high school as well afterward but she just kept getting better. Her defense, inside and outside the paint stood out, she also rebounded
Joy Madison-Key Joy Madison-Key 5'7" | CG South Grand Prairie | 2023 State TX -5’7 PG (South Grand Prairie) TX-Tulane
Madison-Key unlocked the door a few years ago yet her ballhandling and seeing the floor continued to get better. She’s an athletic guard that uses her athleticism on both ends as she scores after contact off the dribble, body control is nice, plus she applies “on the ball” pressure” defensively. Her pull-up jumper was clicking as well
Jadyn Atchison Jadyn Atchison 6'1" | SG Cedar Hill | 2023 State TX -6’1 G (Cedar Hill) TX- Colorado
Atchison is, you guessed it, “long and athletic” but her ability to take games over offensively has been a treat for me over the years. She doesn’t do anything fancy, she can JUST DO IT while being defended. She elevates over the defender for the mid to long-range as well as off the dribble to score, she also has good body control, but she defends and rebounds as well
Tatum West-6’2 F/C (Crandall) TX -North Colorado
West is long and athletic, yes that profile is one of my favorites but so is #THROWBACK stuff, like using the “hands and footwork” to score around the basket, and that included putbacks. She rebounded on both ends, she ran the floor on both ends and she did a good job defensively inside the paint
Amarachi Kimpson Amarachi Kimpson 5'7" | PG Little Elm | 2023 State TX -5’7 PG (Little Elm) TX-UNLV
Kimpson has been a highlight waiting to happen since I first saw her in the 6th grade and her poise under pressure sold me back then. She’s under control, she can score in droves or in the flow and her mid to long-range jumper is a problem. She does things strategically on offense, her court vision needs to be mentioned as well but she plays the passing lane and defends strongly
Alyssa Jackson Alyssa Jackson 5'11" | SF Vanden | 2023 State CA -5’11 G (Vanden) CA- San Diego St.
Jackson was another young lady that gave me a lot to look at in a short span of time and her pull-up jumper with a hand in her face was nice, and she dropped it from mid to long range. She’s strong and powerful while attacking the basket, well while rebounding as well and her handling the ball in the open court and making the right pass also stood out
Salese Blow Salese Blow 5'10" | SF Vines | 2023 State TX -5’11 G (Plano) TX-Wichita St.
Blow continues to take her game to different levels and her spin move while attacking the basket has me dizzy playing it back in my head. She too is “long and athletic” and watching her create her shot from outside was nice yet so was her “stop and pop” in transition, mid to long-range. She attacked and finished, body control played a part in that, she also rebounded and defended
Tristen Taylor Tristen Taylor 5'4" | PG Duncanville | 2023 State TX -5’6 PG (Duncanville) TX- Temple
Taylor finishes out her high school career as one of the top point guards in the state and her ability to run a team, control the tempo and take over offensively when needed all showed at the event. She handles the ball and sees the floor under pressure but her first step to get by the defender to score off the dribble was very nice
