With over 100 teams, there were a lot of quality forwards at the Candice Dupree Invitational. We made our way to some of the games, but the task to see all of the games was not possible. In this article, we look at some of the power forwards who produced some outstanding performances at the tournament.
Nia Blocton Nia Blocton 6’0″ | PF Ridgeview | 2024 State FL was a standout for sure at the Candice Dupree Invitational Tournament. Her strength down low was put on display and the game she played on Sunday elevated her even more. Blocton was strong on the inside and just had her way against anyone who defended her, including some future D1 forwards and centers. She also brought versatility to the table as her ability to handle the ball and make moves to the basket caused a problem for defenders not use to guarding a big so far from the basket. Blocton’s rebounding ability presented a problem. She was ferocious on the glass, especially the offensive glass. Reminder Blocton was highly and nationally ranked in rebounds as a Freshman and her ability to track the ball has only gotten better since then. She was close to unstoppable at moments of the tournament.
Highlights
Aariana Rose Gravel Aariana Rose Gravel 6’0″ | PF Trinity Catholic | 2024 State FL was another dominant Forward on the court. Her athleticism and explosiveness on the inside is unreal, and her rebounding ability is also at an elite level. At Candice Dupree Invitational, the Forward was one of the tops in the building. The new rankings will be out soon and Gravel could possibly be the biggest mover in the entire 2024 class.
Zahariah Jones Zahariah Jones 6’0″ | PF Oak Ridge | 2024 State FL was an impressive force on the courts and really came through in the clutch in the gane I saw her play. Plagued by first half foul trouble, she went to work in the 4th quarter and was impressive scoring down in the paint. She and Blocton (above) went toe to toe down the stretch, and that matchup was one of the best matchups of the weekend. Jones rebounds well, scores on the inside, and can defend out in space as well. She had some crucial defensive steals down the stretch.
Highlights
Kylie Morris Kylie Morris 6’0″ | PF Windermere Prep | 2024 State FL was an impressive Forward at the Candice Dupree Invitational. Her high energy and versatility were impressive and she was one of the top 4s in the building. She was dominant in the paint in the game I watched. She has a nice midrange shot, can score in the paint and from the baseline. She also showcased her rebounding abilities, her relentless pursuit for loose balls, and her willingness to get on the floor to secure the ball.
Hilary Englert Hilary Englert 5’10” | SF Bolles | 2024 State FL played well at the tournament. Englert’s tenacity on defense was impressive and she was locking up some future D1 players on the wing. Englert is physical and can mix it up on the inside with the 4s and is versatile enough to guard the 2 and 3s on the outside. Englert also had some nice scores attacking the basket. She can shoot the 3 and hit the midrange. In the motion offense, Englert can also get to the rim going left or right.
