Continue ReadingAt Prep Girls Hoops we take pride in attempting to cover every athlete across the country in high school basketball. The D1 commits, Top 10 lists, and players that everyone is already talking about are generally easy to cover, and there are tons of resources out there to aid in the scouting of these kids. These players however are a little more “under the radar” and are talented kids who aren’t talked about as often but have great talent. Take a look at 5 kids who are getting the spotlight and are great stock-riser candidates in their class and in the recruiting process.
Stevie Wittler Stevie Wittler 5'7" | CG Sully Buttes | 2024 State SD – Sully Buttes – 5’6″ Guard
Stevie is a point guard who shows off a complete game scoring game, a competitor’s heart, and a savvy game with great decision-making abilities. A noticeable part of this talented young ladies game is the ability to knock down the mid-range jumper off the dribble or coming off of a screen. She has a rare ability to elevate and hang in order to shoot over much taller defenders. Spacing, movement without the basketball, and the ability to use cuts and screens effectively allow her to get open and knock down shots from three. She operates extremely well in the dribble-drive and has a fantastic euro-step and other combination finishing moves to score. Great vision and selfless play round out a true number 1 game for Stevie. Look for her playing for the Sanford Sports Academy and showing out all summer!
Lolo Carlow Lolo Carlow 5'8" | PG Red Cloud | 2024 State SD – Red Cloud – 5’8″ Guard
Lolo is a talented guard who can flat out score the basketball. She has range that extends the the three-point line and beyond, and she has an impressive ability to get to the rim even with traffic and finish in the paint. Filling it up from all over the floor she is the type of explosive scorer that can go off for 20+ points per contest, and almost guarantees you 15+ each night. On the defensive end she impresses as well as a great anticipator of ball movement and an athlete who will work to tip passes all game long, converting defense to offense for her squad.
Harley Johnson Harley Johnson 5'10" | SG Webster Area | 2025 State SD – Arlington – 5’5″ Guard
Harley is a talented guard on a loaded Class B team from Arlington who you can catch developing her game at the Sanford Sports Academy this summer. She has great range and can knock it down from beyond the arc. The most impressive part of her game for me is the explosiveness she demonstrates in getting to the rim off the dribble. She can blow by the defense and does a great job of finishing around the basket. Great vertical ability allows her to get up and finish over defenders around the rim and keep from turning it over or getting blocked. As a perimeter defender she does a great job of pressuring the basketball and making it tough on opposing guards.
Ashlin Jacobsen Ashlin Jacobsen 5'9" | SG Freeman | 2024 State SD – Freeman – 5’9″ Guard
Ashlin is a talented guard who is a true Three and D type of athlete that gets it done on both ends. On defense she moves well laterally, puts pressure on the ball, competes on every play, and secures rebounds to help her squad get stops. At the other end she has one of the most consistent three-point shots you can find. A lefty that can get her shot off quickly and put it on the floor and beat her girl off the dribble, she has a really effective offensive game. She runs the floor well in transition and gets to her spot for a corner 3 quickly, making defenses pay if they don’t get back.
Musonda Kabwe Musonda Kabwe 5'9" | PG Hamlin | 2024 State SD – Hamlin – 5’9″ Guard
Musonda will be taking her talents to the Chargers of Hamlin next season and will look to play a pivotal role in helping her new squad defend their Class A state champ crown. She’s got a lot of quick-twitch muscle and can explode off the dribble to score at the rim. She has a consistent, high-arcing shot from deep as well making her a talented scorer from inside-out. An effective step-through, great vision, and selfless play make her extremely efficient as a scorer in transition. On defense she competes hard and pursues the ball relentlessly in causing turnovers and putting herself in position from a team defense perspective. Check out her highlight reels on Hudl or catch her balling out for the Sanford Sports Academy this summer!
