With Spring ball and camp season getting closer to a end, I’ve been able to see a lot of new players with huge potential who’ve played on a national scene as well as local scene in summer leagues and local team camps. Below you will find the Fresh Five, the top five new additions to the 2024 class!
Burton opened my eyes during the high school season while playing with her Wossman Lady Cats. Standing at 6’3 she’s a physical mismatch on the block, were she has great hands and can finish over either shoulder while using her college ready frame to carve out and hold position. I was highly impressed watching her in the state championship game this past March against Albany finishing with a double-double 12 pts 10 boards and 4 blocks to win there second straight state championship. That performance as well as others took her from unranked to jumping all the way up to #11 in our latest rankings.
I don’t think there’s a kid in the state that’s having a better travel ball campaign rite now then Chandler. A healthy Chandler has shown to be a versatile combo guard that can score in a variety of ways and defend 1-4 on the defensive end. Super athletic guard that has shown she can rebound with the best of them from the guard spot and also has a beautiful stroke from deep. She’s just one of those kids that has that DAWG in her and it shows on every possession the kid competes! Recently she picked up her first collegiate offer from Louisiana Christian and im sure more will follow after the July eval period.
Development is the word here, coming from a great program at LaGrange High Kylei has gotten better every year and she’s chosen the rite time to let it show. The versatile wing has been showing well on the summer circuit thus far with her Lake City Pride squad. Being able to defend multiple positions on the floor with her length is one of her biggest strengths as well as rebounding and starting the break. A kid with a motor who just plays hard and has gotten better and more versatile on offense LeBlanc should be receiving phone calls if not now here in her near future. Continuing to improve her handle will be big and will take her a long way.
What can’t Gracie do? The small school hooper from Midland high is another kid in our state that’s been on a tear this summer. A kid with super confidence and unlimited range that can do pretty much whatever she wants offensively. I love watching her take smaller guards on the block and punish them which she does a lot I haven’t seen a guard post up this much at the high school level and have success at it like Gracie does. A super strong kid with a high IQ if the transfer portal wasn’t so popular a lot of low major D1’s would be knocking down her door!
If waiting your turn was a person look know further then Thomas. Being on a loaded high school team at Walker high for the last three years Thomas has said and shown the time is now for her! Having a great summer playing for the Livingston Ladies, Trinity has shown she can do a little bit of everything from playing the point to playing the center position offensively and defensively. The 5’10 wing has shown a burst that hasn’t been seen from her in three years with the rock in her hand. She’s beating smaller guards off the bounce and finishing them at the rim, and what’s even more noticeable is her extended range she’s always been consistent from 15ft and in now she’s knocking down the three ball at a consistent rate! One of the states biggest sleepers look for her recruitment to pick up here pretty soon! From unranked to ranked.
