Continue ReadingI have said this from day 1, I don’t care what any other ranking service says, that’s their opinion because I have to see for myself. My daughter went completely off in front of BlueStar, ASGR, Prospect Nation, and the initial Hoopgurlz staff yet she wasn’t on their Top 24 picks for the McDonald’s All-American Team, maybe it was because I was outspoken and they were putting me in my place or maybe they didn’t know what they were looking at, she’s been in the WNBA close to 10 years, maybe 4 of their 24’s have as well
Nevertheless, I have NO AGENDA and I have to write what I see, which is why I started doing this in the first place. I may be missing some players because it’s so spread out with multiple shoe teams as well tournaments clubs choose to attend so to SIMplify things, I list where I will be, this includes Individual Showcases but like I always say, my daughter had over 100 D1 offers so what do I know. Well I know I’m dropping some New Names, here’s part 1
Kayla King Kayla King 5'10" | CG Judson | 2025 State TX 5’8 CG (Judson) SA Finest
#28 King impressed me years ago when she was with another club team and even more when she flew into town on a Sunday to make it to the Championship game and drop 5 threes for the win. That was 4 years ago, yet I can’t remember what I ate for breakfast but she has FLOWN up the charts on her debut and eaten defenders with a variety of moves and faes to attack and finish strongly. Her body control keeps getting better, her strength to outrebound taller opponents by getting position under the basket is also solid and her 3 ball still looks good, so does her midrange
Evie Bruce Evie Bruce 6'1" | PF Liberty Hill | 2025 State TX 6’0 PF (Liberty Hill) Centex Attack
#34 Bruce was hands down one of the top performers at the #AllEyezOnMe Individual Showcase, see second paragraph, and that performance got her listed. I spoke about not recognizing her, she’s added mass and is more athletic but her ability to score in the flow on one hand and just dominate offensively in the blink of an eye had me smiling. Mid to long-range, off the dribble, drop step around the basket, check, double check, and triple check yet just as impressive was her seeing the floor and handling the ball in the open court after rebounding. This was my only chance to see her as the circuit she plays on won’t be covered by me so I’m glad she was there
Arianna Jennings Arianna Jennings 6'2" | SG Harker Heights | 2025 State TX 6’2 SG (Harker Heights) Hoop Shop
#35 Jennings has been impressing me for a couple of seasons so after FINALLY having a roster with her name on it, I knew or remembered who she was. She’s “long and athletic” which will always be the base, but she’s also a guard that stands over “the magic number” at 6’2. Her ability to create her shot and knock it down under pressure is nice, well she elevates over the defender’s outstretched hands to release but she also soars over defenders around the basket to score, either off the dribble or in the paint. Throw in she plays the passing lane and defends well
Angela Carroll Angela Carroll 6'2" | C LaVega | 2025 State TX 6’2 C (LaVega) Drive Nation
#40 Carroll has been singing tunes for years yet she’s become a hit with maturity and progression on the court playing a huge part. Her standing over “the magic number” which is 6’0 in case you haven’t figured it out, gives her options because she’s going after everything off the rim, she’s long, strong, and athletic, and she’s finishing consistently around the basket. Her timing to block, alter, and (or) deflect shots will also be a huge factor with her other skills as her school team will try and defend their state championship from last season
Ivy Powell Ivy Powell 5'9" | SG Chaparal | 2025 State TX 5’9 SG (Chaparral) Hoop Shop
#44 Powell has played on multiple club teams and found ways to separate herself from others. She’s another “long and athletic” guard that can handle the ball under pressure at times effortlessly. Watching her rebound and see the floor in transition is one thing yet her acrobatic finishes are also nice. She drops the mid to long-range jumper, but she does a good job playing “on the ball” defense, baseline to baseline, and her quick hands need to be mentioned as she comes away with steals. Well playing the passing lane also gets her steals
