The first was Salesian High School in Los Angeles and the second was at Rio Hondo College in Whittier, CA. The event featured some of the top travel clubs in the LA area. I was able to attend the event and visit both locations. Here’s a look at some additional top standouts I saw.
1.
Sydney Roberson

Roberson is a big wing with good length who can be a primary ball-handler/playmaker. In the game I saw, she was trusted as the team’s main facilitator. She has an advantage against most guards due to her height/size. She’s comfortable creating her own shot and was the only consistent source of offense for her team. Good pull-up jumper in the halfcourt. Good passing in the halfcourt as well, recognizing defense and finding open players.
2.
Sydney Douglas

Douglas is still in middle school, but has advanced skills. She has tremendous size and length and she uses that to her advantage. She can handle the ball as more of a forward. Able to hit defenders in the halfcourt with a 1-2 dribble pull-up jumper. Good elevation on her jumper. She’s comfortable getting her shot off and does a good job reading the defense and adjusting.
3.
Alyse Sims

– Corona Centennial/Troop West National 17U 2024
Sims is a sort of a forward/center combo depending on the matchup. She can make quick, aggressive moves to the basket in the halfcourt. She’s strong, she hits the glass hard and can draw contact/fouls on her rebounds. She can play off ball too especially in transiton running the floor and being a finisher off the pass. Defensively, she’s solid in the post using her strength to make things difficult.
4.
Aurora Elder

Elder stood out to me for her off the ball play. Most of her points in the game I saw came off ball. She cuts hard to the basket and finishes off the pass. She hits the offensive glass hard and gets put-back shots. She has good size in the paint and a lot of upside as an interior player. Boxes out properly and makes good outlet passes. Communicates defensively and can cover ground with her agility.
