Molly Janke Molly Janke 5'10" | SG Ellsworth | 2024 State WI
There’s an outside chance that Ellsworth makes a run at the Middle Border Conference, and Janke is a significant reason why that’s in the realm of possibility. She’s always shouldered a burden offensively and been in a high usage role since she got to high school, and every year they’ve shown signs that they could break through. Janke is comfortable in traffic, gets to the rim from the wings and slots, can knock down perimeter jumpers, and is an above-average athlete. Janke doesn’t play for a premier program, but she’ll make a coaching staff ecstatic she’s on their roster.
Claire Meudt Claire Meudt 5'10" | SF Waunakee | 2024 State WI
A few kids can score, but they do it quietly. Meudt could rack up 20 points in a game but doesn’t feel like it when you watch her, and that’s because of a few reasons. One is she’s not a flashy on-ball player. Most of her points are coming at most two dribbles after the catch. Even if you keep tabs on her for 45 seconds at Waunakee, it takes one lapse of judgment, and she’ll put up two or three points on the board. After a while, that’ll add up, and she’ll have 18 points and a Waunakee win. She took her game to another level after the Class of 2022 left a scoring void after they graduated, under-appreciated standout season.
Maddie Schopf Maddie Schopf 5'6" | SG Kettle Moraine | 2024 State WI
For every team who goes on a run like the one Kettle Moraine went on, you need kids like Schopf. Every team was keying on Grocholski, Torres, and Rangaard two years ago, but Schopf was a kid who punished the overhelps and made plays when her team needed it. A good example was the Notre Dame game at KM this past season. Even though the Lasers lost, they went down 21 in the first half and needed a spark to get their offense going. Most would expect the offense would’ve come from Torres or Grocholski, but Schopf was the one who hit a few three-pointers to help the Lasers go on a 13-6 run and cut into that lead. Kids like her go underappreciated until they’re gone, and if she wants to continue playing at the next level, she’ll keep making winning plays.
McKenna Shipman McKenna Shipman 5'7" | SG Colfax | 2024 State WI
I’m happy Shipman got an opportunity to showcase what she can do at the Resch Center this season. Most, including myself, saw no way that Shipman’s Colfax team would come out of their sectional, but Shipman is that talented of a scorer. Everyone who played Colfax in the postseason knew that the ball would end up in her hands, and it didn’t matter. She reads the game well, works well as a ball handler in the P&R, and overall has good instincts. Shipman has this grit that makes you want to see her do well.
