The event was held from July 21-24 and featured some of the top travel teams from California and from out of state. I was able to attend the event on Sunday, July 23 and I focused on as many of the CA teams as I could. Here’s a look at some additional top standouts I saw.
1.
Christa Contreras

Contreras is a developing center who makes an impact in the game without scoring. In the game I saw, she impacted the game defensively with her ability to contest shots in the paint and be an anchor as well as having the mobility and foot speed to cover a ball-handler on the perimeter. She moves well and slides her feet. She’s a strong rebounder too who uses her length to grab boards. Runs the floor well in transition.
2.

Knight is kind of shooting guard/wing who is trusted as a primary ball-handler. This was my second time this summer watching her play and this particular game I saw more off-ball scoring from her; consistently able to hit the three off the catch. As far as being a ball-handler, she sees the floor well and makes the right passes/reads as a big playmaking wing. Rebounds well and able to start the break off her defensive rebounding.
3.
Ariyah Smith

Smith was one of the best point guards I saw at the event. Very good ball-handler who dribbles under control with her head up surveying the floor. Able to dribble against strong defensive pressure. She finds the seams in the defense, very fundamental and patient with the ball. Good use of fakes to get the defense out of position. Offensively, she has a smooth shot on the perimeter and she can get into the paint with a little runner/floater.
4.
Kylah Baker

Baker is a quick point guard. She has some of the best handles I’ve seen and has an explosive first step. She’s a blur in transition, looks to push the pace and get ahead of the defense. She can consistently attack off the dribble and was able to finish strong at the basket. She’s a quick and active defender with good hands poking the ball free and creating turnovers.
