Here are some of the 2027 standouts I saw this weekend in the 14U age group at the 2k23 event.
Toni Escobedo Toni Escobedo 5'7" | C Griffith | 2028 IN – NWI Select
Does a nice job of anticipating things on defense, she can step in front of the play and play aggressively. Once she continues to grow and mature, her game should get better.
Kalima Montes – Rice Platinum Elite
Good handles and smooth moves around the basket. Floater in the paint and can play through contact. Capable of scoring from the perimeter also.
Ramiyah Puckett Ramiyah Puckett 5'11" | SG Undecided | 2028 IL – Angels Basketball Club 2027
Athletic, shifty guard with good handles. Can play fast and create. Good floor leader with a lot of years to work on her craft. Has a nice running floater on the paint.
Lexi Flisak – EBA Select
Great pressure defender from the point guard spot. Quick and active hands causes mistakes and opportunities. She will harass her opponent into turnovers. Anticipates and reads well and has a quick step to the ball.
Rose Cosme – EBA Select
Athletic long and lanky, she can make plays at both ends of the floor, does a nice job at the rim, good body control, and a strong finisher. For her age she is very talented and I expect her to get better with her work ethic.
Shantia Birth – Illinois Lady Elite
Extremely athletic and can defend both inside and out. Able to block shots for her size well, also can pressure the ball up top with quick hands. Has a good midrange shot. She is all over the court. Can anticipate the game well, has a good future in the game with continued work.
Lily Huffines – Mavericks Basketball Center
She loves to push the ball in transition and can finish at the rim with a runner. For her age, she seems fundamental and plays the game under control.
Laila Jackson – Mavericks Basketball Center
The more I watched her, the more I love her scrappiness in the game. She can knock down the perimeter shot, and she plays the game well. She puts the shot up quickly and is effective in a catch-and-shoot style. Good on-ball defender with pressure.
Macee Hogancamp – KEM Force
Good size and does a nice job pushing the ball in transition. Workhorse in the paint. Count on her to pressure the paint, boxing out and wearing down her opponent.
Kenzie Pederson – United
Does everything. Big rebounder, good post moves. Distributes the ball. Has good length. Tough kid, can play through the physical game.
Grace Warborg – United
Shooter! Great stroke behind the arc. Flashy with handles, great floor leader. Quick hands and deflects passes well. She is another younger player who I expect to make an impact this winter. Smart, heady and plays with a good motor.
