And while I know it’s a winter sport and still months away, it’s hard not to look forward to the excitement that this season will bring. Anticipation is building for the following 2024’s who are primed for more prominent roles on their respective teams and ready for their moment in the sun… or snow, because winter 😉
Dacia Mack Dacia Mack 5'7" | PG Highland | 2024 State NJ | 5’7″ | PG
If Dacia can keep up the momentum from aau, it’s going to spell trouble for the girls in high school ball! She’s gritty, fierce and physical. She’s a match-up nightmare because of her ability to take smaller guards off the bounce & use her speed to skate past bigs down low. Her production at Highland has increased with every year that has passed, as has her confidence. She can shoot the 3, bury the mid-range J and crash the boards with the biggest and baddest. This season may see Dacia eclipse both 100 made 3-pointers and 500 rebounds for her career.
Brianna Estevez Brianna Estevez 5'7" | SF Perth Amboy | 2024 NJ | 5’7″ | SF
With the departure of five seniors last season, Brianna’s playing time and overall productivity is set to increase exponentially come winter. As a junior, she ranked 3rd on her team in scoring, rebounding and shots blocked. An excellent rebounding presence, her physicality, strong frame and active hands give her an advantage over many, including players both bigger and taller. She gives Perth Amboy a level of toughness that’s unmatched. By the time her senior season is over, Brianna may eclipse both 200 rebounds and 100 steals for her career.
Carolyn Lundy Carolyn Lundy 5'5" | PG St. John Vianney | 2024 NJ | 5’5″ | PG
Playing on one of the nation’s top ranked teams in St. John Vianney has helped her game immensely. She’s competed alongside and against some of the top talent in the nation, which has helped grow her overall skill set. With five players having graduated in June, Carolyn now steps into a new role as one of the Lady Lancer’s senior leaders. Her travel season with the Shoreshots was a very successful one that saw increased efficiency from the mid-range, extreme toughness and persistence, as well as unmatched energy and unwavering team spirit. If she can carry that momentum into high school ball, it’ll be tough for opponents to shake her confidence and overall efficiency.
Kaliah Sumlin Kaliah Sumlin 5'5" | CG Wildwood | 2024 NJ | 5’5″ | CG
Kaliah will be one of four seniors for the Warriors and looks to bring the defensive intensity she’s well known for. Very active hands force a ton of turnovers which she converts to transition offense the other way. She’s a speed demon who switches the jets on and gets out ahead of the pack, practically unstoppable when attacking the rim. Wildwood has always been heavy on the guard play and Kaliah’s game fits perfectly into the system this team is known for: stifling, scrappy and quick. If they want to make another South Jersey Final, or even take the next step and re-claim Group 1 glory, K’s defense will have to be absolutely relentless.
Savannah Prescott Savannah Prescott 5'5" | PG Our Lady Of Mercy | 2024 State NJ | 5’5″ | CG
A player who led her team in free throws attempted, free throws made, assists and steals as a junior, Savannah is primed for the senior spotlight. Her fearless guard play has been the driving force behind her success and ultimately, her team’s success for the past several seasons. A fantastic rebounding guard, she is highly confident when going up against much taller opponents in and around the paint. Her defensive prowess is something to marvel at, as she excels at turning opponents over time and time again; nearly three steals per game for her career thus far. With a two-way game this tenacious, I can guarantee you a big senior season is loading and a lot of success is on the horizon.
