Moreover, many of the players either didn’t play in the travel season or they just flew under the radar. With so many players in the heavily populated State of Florida, falling into a sleeper category is very likely. In this article we look at some sleepers in the 2024 class. It may turn out that many of these players may have been wide awake and everyone else was asleep.
Jonise Barcene Jonise Barcene 5'4" | SG Cocoa | 2024 State FL will be a sleeper this season after not playing for nearly a year. Barcene returned to action the last tournament of the season and picked up where she left off from a year ago. She also picked up a college offer in the process. She was a standout for ECU a few travel seasons ago and is looking to have an impactful senior season this 2023 – 2024 season. Barcene is a quick guard who can score the basketball and won’t be a sleeper for too long.
Ni’ana Hill Ni’ana Hill 5'7" | SF Palm Bay Magnet | 2024 State FL has been under the radar, and with the departure of several key players, its her time to come from under the radar. Hill received an offer after the live period because of her undeniable skills. She is athletic and skillful, and can score the ball. She had some very good games during the Live period in Louisville and Orlando. Last summer in a showcase, Hill left an impression that still lingers to this day. Hill is poised to make more impressions this upcoming season.
Ya’Nija Lawson Ya’Nija Lawson 5'10" | PF Spruce Creek | 2024 State FL is a player to keep an eye on this year. She has flown under the radar a little bit, but she has lots of game. Lawson can play the 2, 3, and 4 and her stats back that up. She averaged 9 points per game last season and 6.6 rebounds per game. A few seasons ago, I watched her in the Regional playoffs and she was handling business down in the paint. Last season in the playoffs, she was on the wing knocking down three pointers. She also shot 45 percent from the field for her Junior season. Lawson is a sleeper is primed to have a good senior season.
Kennedy Waymer Kennedy Waymer PG Paxon | 2024 State FL is definition of a sleeper. She doesn’t play travel basketball, because she is usually on a softball field during the AAU season. Waymer can flat out play on the basketball court. She can get down hill and that is her number one objective. She can also shoot the long ball and draw fouls. Waymer averaged 13.2 points per game and nearly 4 assists per game.
Gabrielle Fajado Gabrielle Fajado 5'4" | PG Stanton College Prep School | 2024 State FL is a sleeper on this list, but make no doubt it, this point guard can ball out. Fajado is a dangerous player on the offensive end and also excels in transition. She is very good at scoring the basketball on all three levels. She is also crafty at drawing fouls and can get to the freethrow line. Fajado averaged nearly 10 points per game and nearly 4 assist per contest. The fleet footed guard also amassed nearly 3 steals per game. She does a very good job of playing in the passing lanes and anticipating the pass.
Mychaela Parker Mychaela Parker 6'2" | C Orange Park | 2024 State FL could be the missing link for Orange Park this year. She has the ability to be a dominant player- if not for the entire game, definitely in important stretches of the game. Parker didn’t play much travel ball this season, but she was a standout during the summer league. She is sftrong in the paint and has very good hands. Parker also gets to the freethrow line at a very high rate and she could make her mark there: scoring points and putting the opponent in foul trouble. Parker is just that powerful in the paint.
Regan Chappell Regan Chappell 5'7" | SG DME Academy | 2024 State FL has gone a little under the radar, but has been a steady player the past few seasons. Chappell can score the ball from behind the arc and she can also knock it down from the midrange area. She has a silky smooth shot and can score points in a flurry. She is a tough nosed player who can also get after it on the defensive end. Offensively, Chappell can handle the ball and run some point, though she is a shooting guard who can shoot. Chappell is poised to have a good season and come from under the radar.
Taylor Perce Taylor Perce 5'10" | SG Ponte Vedra | 2024 State FL is another player who has some “game” and has been under the radar. Perce averaged 7.5 points per game and is usally in the top 3 or 4 players in scoring for her team. Perce has an all around game. she can handle the ball well enough to make it hard for teams to press her guards, and she can flat out shoot the ball. Last summer she had 5 threes in a game. With her ability to shoot the three, the cat is “out of the bag.” Perce is poised to have a great season.
Aniyah Campbell Aniyah Campbell 5'10" | PF Ridgeview | 2024 State FL has shown the signs, and she is looking to have a larger role and impact this upcoming high school season. Campbell can score on the inside, but she brings toughness to the courts. She is a good defender who can make life a little miserable for the opposing 4 or 5. Campbell defends well on the wing and especially in the painted area. She is also a good rebounder. She is looking to come from under the radar and that will make life so much easier in the middle for her teammate Nia Blocton Nia Blocton 6'0" | PF Ridgeview | 2024 State FL .
