The latest commitment comes from St. John Neumann Catholic 6-3 rising senior forward Sophia McCartney who announced her commitment on her social media platforms to Army.
McCartney chose the Black Knights over Austin Peay, Bowling Green, North Florida and several others.
McCartney plays with a big presence in the interior on both ends of the floor whether it’s her shooting for a high percentage, rebounding or elite shot blocking. Last season, McCartney averaged 19.9 points, 16.9 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 2.9 steals and 2.3 blocks per game for the Celtics finishing 19-8 and reaching the regional quarterfinals.
During the grassroots circuit, McCartney plays for Central Florida Elite where she is teammates with Lexi Blue Lexi Blue 6'1" | SF Lake Highland Prep | 2024 State FL (Virginia Tech commit), Nicole Carreno Nicole Carreno 5'10" | SF Seffner Christian | 2024 State FL (Holds offers from North Florida and Western Carolina) and Raeanne Eccelston (Holds offers from Bethune-Cookman, Jacksonville, Radford, South Carolina State and several others).
McCartney was also named to the Naples Daily News All-Area Girls Basketball First Team last season where she also took home the Player of the Year Award.
McCartney returns to St. John Neumann this upcoming season where she will be joined by 6-2 senior forward Sydney Martin, 5-7 sophomore guard Hailey Scheffler and 5-6 sophomore guard Ava Martin.
