Emilee Fox Emilee Fox 5'8" | CG Mt.Vernon/Plankinton | 2024 State SD – Mount/Vernon-Plankinton – 5’8 – Fox is the #1 point guard in the state of South Dakota and she has proved that statistic in every category showcasing a clinic when she steps foot on the court all summer long. Quick, evasive, fluent in basketball, and an all-around high IQ guard. I can say through thorough research that there’s not a guard in South Dakota that has handles like her. If I had to pick one guard in the whole state to lead my team to a championship it would be Fox. If you haven’t seen her play yet you’re really missing out.
Katie Vesecka – Tea Area – 6’2 – #1 overall player in the state, can get any shot she wants on the court is a true 3-level scorer, has elite athleticism, and has been talked about for years now. If you don’t know who she is you’ve been living under a rock clearly. Need I say more?
Claire Sheppard Claire Sheppard 6'1" | SF Flandreau | 2024 State SD – Flandreu – 6’1 – Back with my favorite position we have one of my favorite players in South Dakota at the 3 spot. An absolute beast of a player that is a coach’s dream/nightmare if you’re playing against her. A 6’1 ATHLETE! (I can’t stress that enough) that is willing to go up and beyond the call of basketball for her team. What I love most about Sheppard is her heart and determination to never give up on a play. A natural leader on the court and my clear-cut pick for starting at the 3.
Caylin Kelly Caylin Kelly 6'0" | SF Florence/Henry | 2024 State SD – Florence/Henry – 6′ – A force inside and out that can get you a bucket in a time of needing it. Caylin can put it on the floor and really excels at catching and ripping from the high post to the short corner. A player that if given enough space will just shoot it over the defense, but is absolutely fearless when driving to the rim, and can you blame her? A big body that when is having a night you better watch out as she can really pack on the points in a hurry. What makes her even more dangerous is playing a 4 out style offense as if she’s your trailer she’s going to burn the defense for 3.
Maggie Taylor Maggie Taylor 6'3" | C Hill City | 2024 State SD – Hill City – 6’3 – A big body that you can’t miss. Maggie is a superb talent with lots of upside! A true back-to-the-basket big that’s got a sweet baby hook shot and creates space for herself down low. If she’s got you under the basket you might as well add 2 points on the scoreboard. Her length is outmatched on the court and surprisingly has above-average vertical quickness as she’s able to get in the help side fairly quickly in blocking shots or causing loose ball turnovers due to her presence alone. Let’s put it like this… If she’s guarding your 5 and your 5 can’t shoot you’re going to have a hell of a time scoring on this squad.
That’s it for my starting seniors… Something I noticed in writing this article is 3 out of 5 athletes are SDSU commits and this was unintentional. I guess it’s safe to say that we have the same taste in players though. The next article will be squad 2 of our all-senior team, so be sure to come back for that one.
