Amya is sure to be a heavy contributor for Coach Goodman this season at Terry Sanford High School in Fayetteville as she can flat out play. Amya spent time at the 3-5 positions Saturday and I would not hesitate to put her in any of those positions on the floor as she will find a way to fit in no matter where she is at. She was very active on the court and her size is a major problem for opponents. She is a high level defender and her ability to step out on the perimeter and defend smaller guards gives her a major advantage over guards who will have trouble seeing over her length. She can move her feet well and she will contest everything. Nothing comes easy against her. She does a great job inside as a finisher around the basket and I love the way she attacks the glass hard. We will certainly be tracking her throughout the course of this season.
Isabella Snipes
Isabella Snipes
Isabella was extremely impressive Saturday as she showed her ability to make plays all over the court in both the wing and guard spots. She is an absolute baller with overall excellent court vision and awareness, which allows her to be a facilitator or a creator depending upon the situation. She also does a good job playing off the ball, knowing how to utilize cuts and floor spacing to put herself in position to score high percentage baskets. She showed off her ability to lead the break in transition and she can also finish through contact. She is the ultimate hustler who you will rarely see get beat down the floor. She also showed a lot of vocal leadership qualities as she was able to help her teammates get in position on defense. Greensboro Day is truly getting a special talent that we will be hearing about for years to come.
Kaila Spain
Kaila Spain
Kaila is the rare prototypical wing that coaches crave on their teams. She provides a lot of length on the floor and can seamlessly switch off the pick and roll without missing a beat. She is an overall very good defender who I would have no problem having her defend the 1-4 positions. She had a very nice block Saturday and showed a willingness to do the dirty work to help her team win. She shows a lot of speed and athleticism in transition and can finish around the rim on the break. She was also able to show off some nice post moves on the low block to get inside for some easy scores. Just an overall very solid day for Kaila who is bound to have a stellar basketball career.
Scarlett Howell
Scarlett Howell
Already one of the best teams in its conference last season, Wren High just continues to reload out in Piedmont, SC. Scarlett Howell certainly turned heads Saturday with her ability to do everything, making her one of the more versatile players at the Freshman Showcase. Offensively, she shot the 3 ball very efficiently, knocking down big shots all within the flow of the offense. Scarlett was certainly in her bag as she was able to score several times inside, including a nice jab-step finish over a defender. She is the player that is not going to force something that isn’t there, making quick and decisive decisions when the ball is in her hands. She moves very well off the ball and knows how to work her way open to get shots. Defensively, Scarlett was one of the top defenders I saw at the showcase. She can switch off screens with ease and she just knows where to be. She is not easily fooled and is a strong communicator on the floor. She is bound to have an exciting career at Wren and we can’t wait to watch it unfold.
