Continue ReadingWe don’t want to yet do our first team conference rankings as the season approaches, but do not fret, that will be coming as we inch closer and closer to high school girls basketball. What we’ll do instead is talk about players to watch in just about every conference we can get to in the Garden State, beginning with the Olympic Conference, the conference of my HS alma mater. We’ll begin in the American Division.
Brielle Alaba Brielle Alaba 5'9" | PG Cherokee | 2026 State NJ – Cherokee (2026)
Alaba is next in line for the dynasty that has been Cherokee girls basketball in recent years. Her, along with Olivia Selverian Olivia Selverian 5'7" | SG Cherokee | 2025 State NJ , who we just might talk about upcoming, will be the key cogs for the Chiefs to make things happen. A jack of all trades as we would describe her, Alaba is an offensive threat, a great shooter and an impressive defensive player all the same. She certainly challenged for all-conference selections last season, and should break through for those this season.
Alexa Henry Alexa Henry 5'6" | CG Lenape | 2025 State NJ – Lenape (2025)
Henry made an instant impact for Lenape as a freshman, showcasing great ball-handling skills and a veteran presence at the top of the key not seen by many other Class of 2025 players. While she regressed slightly as a sophomore, don’t expect that regression to continue as a junior because she’s the player expected to be relied upon for just about everything Lenape. Four impact seniors are gone, leaving the junior to ball out on the court.
Jordan Reynolds Jordan Reynolds 5'7" | CG Rancocas Valley | 2025 NJ – Rancocas Valley (2025)
Reynolds is part of a relatively young core for Rancocas Valley that’s going to be relied upon to do some big things this season. She’s the leader of the bunch and the leading returning scorer for the Red Devils, a solid offensive player with plenty of room to grow and develop. With losing teams, often, there just isn’t much room to budge, but knowing that Rancocas should be a player in the Olympic Conference next season, that means growth in her game as well.
Remi Cherkas Remi Cherkas 5'5" | PG Eastern | 2024 State NJ – Eastern (2024)
We have our first senior on this list, and we picked out a good one in Remi Cherkas Remi Cherkas 5'5" | PG Eastern | 2024 State NJ , the undisputed leader for Eastern heading into the winter. Eastern, like Rancocas Valley, has a young core of players ready to contribute at a higher clip this season. She’s a talented scorer, the director of the show at the top of the key, and she’s fit into that archetype well so far. Her rebounding and passing have improved, as has her defense, and all that’s left is a greater emphasis on her free throw shooting as the cherry on top.
Lilly Quintero – Cherry Hill East (2024)
Our last player to talk about in this article comes from the last place team in the American Division, Lilly Quintero of Cherry Hill East. Do not underestimate the Cougars and Quintero because she’s a shooter and a scorer, an incredibly talented scorer that averaged 12.6 points a game as a junior. It looks like she’ll have a lot of talent returning, and the biggest thing is truly to see what her teammates can do because she’s 100% proven herself as a top-end talent in the Olympic Conference.
