1. 5’9, CG, Ventura HS/Sports Academy Swish 17U 805, Leah Sarabia Leah Sarabia 5'10" | SF Leuzinger | 2024 State CA
I’ve seen Sarabia play a couple of times now and it’s clear that she’s worked on becoming a top-notch ball-handler and playmaker. She’s become more of a combo guard now, capable of being the lead ball-handler and being a scoring option as well. Her passes are on target and she makes quick decisions with the ball in her hands. Offensively, she’s been a good catch and shoot three-point shooter and can get to the basket.
2. 5’4, PG, Jadalyn Claros – Fairmont Prep HS/West Coast Elite 17U
Claros is a quick little point guard. She can get past her defender and into the paint. Able to kick the ball back out once the defense collapses. Very quick first step. Uses head fakes and hesitation moves to get to the basket. Good faking the DHO and turning the corner. She can finish well at the basket. She has a quick release on her shot and can knock down the three off the catch.
3. 5’8, CG, Long Beach Poly HS, Andrea Perkins Andrea Perkins 5'8" | CG Long Beach Poly | 2024 State CA – wing guard that can handle and attack the glass and get to the rim and finish. Nice body type for her size, solid guard skills and is really aggressive to the rack. Showed us she can stroke it from three line with consistency. Love her tenacity on the floor.
4. 5’5, PG, Ventura HS/Sports Academy Swish 17U 805 Jamaica Cheatham Jamaica Cheatham 5'5" | PG Orangewood Academy | 2024 State CA
Cheatham was one of the team’s lead guards in the game that I saw. She’s comfortable being the primary ball-handler and she can play alongside another ball-handler as well. In the halfcourt, she’s an unselfish, pass-first guard. She doesn’t look to score so much. When she does look for offensive opportunities, she can hit the little runner when going to the rim and she’s able to shoot the pull-up in transition.
5. 5’9, SF, La Costa Canyon HS,
Clare Patrick
Clare
Patrick
5'9" | SF
La Costa Canyon | 2024
State
CA
– forward with a nice solid body type, bangs the boards and is able to get the ball to the guard to start the break. Ran the floor like a gazelle and was able to catch with soft hands and finish in transition. Decent rebounder and defender on the floor, was impressed by the way she played hard all of the time.
6. 6’0, PF, Windward School, India Marrero India Marrero 6'0" | PF Windward | 2024 State CA – Nice size forward/post player, she was athletic and knew how to use her athleticism, she was aggressive on the boards and was a willing defender on the floor. We loved her spirit and the way she played on the floor, she was confident in her role and was a team player in our book.
7. 6’2, PF, Woodside Priory, Carmela Fontes Carmela Fontes 6'2" | PF Woodside Priory | 2024 State CA – nice size post player in the paint, active and is a bruiser on the court, gets to loose balls and is able to deter drives to the basket. Can handle the ball like a wing, but makes the right decision with the ball all the time.
8. 6’4, C, Branham HS, Quinn Godfrey Quinn Godfrey 6'4" | C Branham | 2024 State CA – Big post in the paint, wobbly like a baby deer , but is still effective in the paint with soft hands. This kid will develop in the college ranks, but the skill is there with work and repetition. Was able to seal defenders in the paint and catch over top and score. She hit the midrange shot with consistency and ran the floor and got back ready to defend.
9. 5’3, PG, ArchBishop Riordan HS, Ashanti Dias Ashanti Dias 5'3" | PG Arch Bishop Riordan | 2024 State CA – crafty lefty point guard with a nasty aggressiveness on the floor, she sees everything and make the right decision every time. Floaty game in the paint, pull-up game in the midrange and can nail the three pointer. She made the team go and we enjoyed watching her play this past weekend.
10. 5’5, PG, Abraham Lincoln HS, Kelis Powell Kelis Powell 5'5" | PG Abraham Lincoln | 2024 State CA – eats the glass up inside for a guard, but make a good presence in the paint on scores. Can handle the ball like a guard but prefers to get buckets in the paint with ease, using athleticism. Was the most uncanny thing to see, a guard that could seal in the paint and score whenever she wanted over defenders.
11. 5’7, PG, Chaminade HS, Natalie Patrick Natalie Patrick 5'7" | PG Chaminade | 2024 State CA – shaky crafty guard type, lanky athletic body that has some swag to her game. She has nice handles and could get to anywhere on the court with ease off the dribble. She also showed us that she can drive to the rim and bang with the post to get to the line.
12. 5’7, SG, Valencia HS, Libertine Oxciano Libertine Oxciano 5'7" | SG Valencia | 2024 State CA – nice guard type that can really flourish in the open court, witness her rebound the ball and push the break and make simple floaters off the glass in traffic with ease. She is very good attacking the rim and making difficult shots off the glass, love the retro skills.
13. 5’6, CG, Notre Dame HS/Balboa Hills National Blue, Grace Muir Grace Muir 5'6" | CG Notre Dame | 2024 State CA
I think what stood out the most to me about Muir was her hustle plays and energy. It always seemed like she was everywhere on the court trying to impact the game. She’s slight and maybe more of a guard but she was able to hit the glass well against bigger players. She tries hard defensively and that’s half the battle. When she had the ball in her hands, she was able to use shot fakes and take the dribble pull-up.
14. 5’9, CG, Ventura HS/Sports Academy Swish 17U 805, Skyler Knight Skyler Knight 5'9" | CG Ventura | 2024 State CA –
Knight is kind of shooting guard/wing who is trusted as a primary ball-handler. This was my second time this summer watching her play and this particular game I saw more off-ball scoring from her; consistently able to hit the three off the catch. As far as being a ball-handler, she sees the floor well and makes the right passes/reads as a big playmaking wing. Rebounds well and able to start the break off her defensive rebounding.
15. 5’4, PG, Clovis West HS/ Cal Stars 17 Champions League, Ariyah Smith Ariyah Smith 5'4" | PG Clovis West | 2024 State CA
Smith was one of the best point guards I saw at the event. Very good ball-handler who dribbles under control with her head up surveying the floor. Able to dribble against strong defensive pressure. She finds the seams in the defense, very fundamental and patient with the ball. Good use of fakes to get the defense out of position. Offensively, she has a smooth shot on the perimeter and she can get into the paint with a little runner/floater.
16. 5’4, PG, Twentynine Palm HS/Aim High Lady Ballers Red 17U, Kyla Palpallatoc Kyla Palpallatoc 5'4" | PG Twentynine Palms | 2024 State CA
This was my first time seeing Palpallatoc play and what stood out the most was her ability to be interchangeable with another ball-handler; she can be the primary ball-handler or she can play off ball. As a playmaker, she has good vision in the halfcourt. Makes quick decisions with the ball in her hands, nice give and go plays and can fake the hand off and attack. She can get to the basket and is able to draw contact and get to the FT line.
17. 5’6, CG, Corona Centenial HS/Aim High Lady Ballers Red 17U, Aniyah Offutt Aniyah Offutt 5'6" | CG Corona Centennial | 2024 State CA
This was my first event seeing Offutt play live and she stood out as a good combo guard. One of the better ball-handlers I saw. She has a good balance between being a playmaking guard and a scoring guard. Able to start the break and push the pace in transition. Can get downhill and attack. In the halfcourt she comes off screens well and attacks the mismatch off a switch. Also able to hit the pull-up from midrange.
18. 6’0, SF, Yucaipa HS/Aim High Lady Ballers Red 17U, Lucy Land Lucy Land 6'0" | SF Yucaipa | 2024 State CA
Land stood out to me for her ability to move off the ball. In the game I saw most of her scoring came from off-ball movement. She was able to consistently knock down catch and shoot threes and she has a quick release. She’s kind of in the mold of a big guard/small forward type player. She can finish at the basket strong. She’s a good rebounder too who boxes out well.
19. 5’7, SG, Chino Hills HS/Blackwater Elite, Kyra Phaychanpheng Kyra Phaychanpheng 5'7" | SG Chno Hills | 2024 State CA
This was my first time seeing Phaychanpheng play. She stood out to me as a pretty good wing scorer. She can handle the ball and she’s able to attack in the halfcourt. She can shoot from three-point range but her offensive strength lies in her ability to get into the paint and get easy scoring looks. She can get past her defender off the dribble and finishes strong at the basket. Moves well off ball too making cuts to the rim.
20. 5’6, CG, Burroughs HS, Savannah Rowland Savannah Rowland 5'6" | CG Burroughs | 2024 State CA
Rowland was a solid point guard and ball-handler. She pushes the pace in transition and does a good job keeping her head up and reading the defense. Able to attack downhill and draw contact at the basket to get to the free-throw line. Very unselfish, past first point guard who looks to keep the ball moving and make the extra pass. Good vision in halfcourt to find the open teammate.
21. 5’4, SG, Diamond Bar HS/ OC Rhythm 17U National Blue, Morgan Seshiki Morgan Seshiki 5'4" | SG Diamond Bar | 2024 State CA
Seshiki is a solid scoring guard. She can handle the ball both on the break and in the halfcourt and she’s comfortable creating her own shot. She’s a consistent three-point shooter who can attack closeouts well; uses shot fakes to get closer to the basket and can hit the pull-up midrange jumper. Good catch and shoot three-point shooter. Looks to make the right pass in the halfcourt if shot isn’t there. She hits the glass well too.
22. 5’9, SF, Corona Centennial HS/ Troop West National 17U, Alyse Sims Alyse Sims 5'9" | SF Corona Centennial | 2024 State CA
Sims is a sort of a forward/center combo depending on the matchup. She can make quick, aggressive moves to the basket in the halfcourt. She’s strong, she hits the glass hard and can draw contact/fouls on her rebounds. She can play off ball too especially in transiton running the floor and being a finisher off the pass. Defensively, she’s solid in the post using her strength to make things difficult.
23. 5’11, SF, Pacifica HS (Oxnard), Mikayla Oliver Mikayla Oliver 5'11" | PF Pacifica (Oxnard) | 2024 State CA
This was my second time watching Oliver play this summer. She’s a capable wing scorer. She can put the ball on the floor in the halfcourt and make strong, aggressive moves to the basket. She can hit defenders with a little stop and pop, and she can shoot the runner in the lane. Consistently created her own shot. Her offensive strength lies in her slashing ability. Also able to move off ball cutting in the halfcourt.
24. 5’11, SG, Etiwanda HS, Sania Jenkins Sania Jenkins 5'11" | PF Etiwanda | 2024 State CA
25. 5’9, CG, Sierra Canyon HS, Izela Arenas Izela Arenas 5'9" | CG Sierra Canyon | 2024 State CA
Izela is a scrappy guard much like her father (Gilbert Arenas), she is quick, she is crafty and she is an athlete. She has a good handle and can score the ball in all types of ways, she is the sole true point guard on the team, she does what her coach tells her to do. She is a defender as well, she will lock you up and make you frustrated on the offensive side of the floor.
