Honorable Mention
Zoe Myslewicz
Zoe Myslewicz is part of a tall Potomac front line that is in for a huge year. Zoe is a rebounding machine with a solid back to the basket game. She is a good defender inside the paint and also does well-disrupting passes. Zoe will rack up the double-doubles this year and have an excellent year for a fantastic Potomac team.
My first guard position is Saniyah King. Saniyah is a player that the game looks easy for her. She is always in control and plays at her own pace. Defenders not being able to speed you up is one of the best traits for a player to have, and Saniyah shows that. She has a good handle and is skilled around the basket. She is a good jump shooter and plays either guard position well. Bishop Ireton has talent everywhere, and I think Saniyah will be a calming presence for this team at times because of how steady she is.
Episcopal guard Ava Sawi is another fantastic combo guard who should be great this year. She is really quick and a terrific overall athlete. Ava loves to get to the rim and finish through defenders. Ava’s quickness allows her to blow by defenders and create space. She creates separation to knock down jumpers, and she is just a difficult player to deal with. She is also a great defender and takes pride on that end.
Highlights
Desirae Ashton is a versatile player that excels all over the court. She can guard anyone on the court 1-5 and has a high-level mix of athleticism and length. She is a good ball handler, and she can knock down open shots. Desirae can play as a forward, Wing, or point forward. She has all the tools to be outstanding at the next level, and she will show a lot of them this year. Desirae had an injury last year that cost her a lot of her Junior year, so I am excited to see what a healthy Desirae can do on this Bishop Ireton squad.
Highlights
Tanah Gorman is another Bishop Ireton player who should be one of the best forwards in the area. Tanah is athletic and powerful in the paint and is a great finisher. Tanah can also knock down threes and is a positive defender. Tanah does well in transition and uses her quickness when she has space or can take another forward one-on-one. Tanah stepped in last year when Desirae Ashton and Nyla Brooks got hurt, and she was terrific. Tanah should have another great year, even with those two in the lineup.
Highlights
Laura Williams might be the best player in the state this year and will be the best player on a PVI team that always argues for the best in the DMV. Just on defense and rebounding, you could talk about Laura being one of the most impactful players in Virginia. She blocks shots at a high level and routinely hauls in 15+ rebounds. Then, on offense, Laura has grown so much. Her touch around the rim has improved significantly over the past year, and she is challenging to guard in the post. She turns offensive rebounds into points, and she is even starting to take threes now. You’re talking about a player that could average 25 and 15 with a handful of blocks to go with it. Laura recently committed to USC and has a bright future.
