This season will be an opportunity for new contributors to carve out a role and for returning pieces to lead their teams in their quest for a state title. Let’s take a look at some of the top teams for this upcoming season.
Webster
Webster is coming off a 25-1 campaign last season and look to be one of the favorites for the AA title this upcoming season. This team is loaded with talent with returning starters, Ava Gallup Ava Gallup 5'11" | SF Webster Schroeder | 2024 NY , and sisters, Bria and Mariah Watkins Mariah Watkins 6'0" | SF Webster Schroeder | 2024 State NY on the offensive side of things. Sarah Ferruzza and Addison Morgan Addison Morgan NY will look to backstop the defense on what is a very well balanced team. This team likes to shoot it from the perimeter, create turnovers, and play in your face defense for contested shots, and protecting the paint all costs. Everyone plays together mixed with the talent this team possesses, and it should be another long run for Webster.
Liverpool
Liverpool returns a strong team coming off a 25-3 campaign last season. Led by Kayln Sweeney and Abriyah Cunningham. This team likes to run on the break by turning defense into offense. They have some size on both the perimeter and interior and play with a physical edge. They like to move the ball quickly and shoot it from the perimeter with a system that is catered to the roster. Liverpool will be there at the end of the season and will be a tough out every night.
Albany
Albany is coming off a 20-4 season. Led by double double machine, Shonyae Edmunds. Edmunds is a force on both ends of the court. Albany has some talent waiting in the wings with Azeera Gates. She’s only of my favorite players in the state and is set to take off this season with more responsibility and scoring opportunities. Jordan Johnson and Naveah Gates are two players to keep an eye that will look to be key contributors for this upcoming season.
Penfield
Penfield is coming off a 20-3 season. Penfield lost two key seniors from last years team but has the talent to step up and not skip a beat. This is a balanced, well coached team that plays as a team. They like to take high % shots from the perimeter, look for passing lanes for easy buckets, and attack the paint. Emma Alexander, Mary Bernat, and Nadia Green are three players set to take on a bigger role this season and should flourish.
