Some teams may have graduated players, and some players may be calling a new school home. In this series called, “Next player up,” I’m looking at some of the conference winners from last season and the players that are going to step up to help their team continue to have success.
South Meck won the So Meck 4A conference last led by some stellar seniors like Betsey Burnett, Anastasia Sinclair, Maggie Houpt, and Deirdre Miller who are all starting their collegiate careers. Even through these changes, the Sabres have reloaded hoping to have another successful season.
Camryn Williams Camryn Williams 5'9" | CG South Meck | 2024 NC is an asset in the paint using her length to get the entry pass and show off her post moves. She’s more versatile than just playing inside being able to step out and facilitate offensive sets. She is sure to grab rebounds on both ends of the court, and she does well seeing the floor knowing exactly what to do with the ball finding her open teammates.
Gabriella Phifer Gabriella Phifer 5'8" | SG South Meck | 2025 State NC (2025) is an excellent ball handler being able to set up plays and find her open teammates. She is a high motor guard pushing the tempo exploding up the court to make a play quickly, and she can score on solo fast breaks. She’s quick on defense, too, knowing how to read her opponents jumping into passing lanes.
Makailah Davis Makailah Davis 5'6" | CG South Meck | 2025 NC is a nice addition to the team. She is aggressive going full speed downhill getting to the basket and scoring through contact. She knows how to make the defense shift and makes her adjustments to get the open look to her teammates. She can knock down her shot from anywhere on the court, too, scoring on all levels.
Kyilah Brown Kyilah Brown 5'3" | CG South Meck | 2027 State NC is definitely a freshman to keep on your radar. Her handles are fun to watch, and she is certain to show off her change of direction moves against tough high school competition. She can create her own space pulling up for a shot from anywhere. She does a well constantly repositioning herself on defense making sure she sees the floor and her opponent to be the most effective on that end of the court.
