The event always features some of the top teams and talent in the Southern California area. The tournament runs from Nov. 20-25. I was able to attend the event on Wednesday, Nov. 22 and here’s a focus on some of the top bigs and post players I saw.
1.

Jones is kind of in the mold of a power forward/center with good activity around the basket. She’s patient in the paint and can pass well out of the post looking for cutters. Good activity on the glass boxing out and securing defensive boards. She can move off ball diving to the basket on cuts or she can play with her back to the basket. Nice little turnaround jumper in the post.
2. Taliyah Mcferson – Lynwood 2024
Mcferson is a true low post player. She’s strong in the paint and uses pump fakes well to get the defense out of position. Consistently able to draw contact and get to the free throw line. She gets deep post position and can score down low. Defensively, she’s mobile and can meet slashers at the basket. Sets solid screens and crashes the glass well. Can pass out of the post to shooters.

Zimmerman is a good interior player with a nice touch around the basket. She also uses her size to shoot over the defense and get easy looks at the rim. She catches passes high and keeps the ball high out of the defender’s reach. She moves off ball too and makes solid cuts to the basket; good hands to catch passes and finish.
4.
Dresha Moore

Moore is more of a power forward and small ball center. She’s mobile and quick and can be decisive attacking the defense. Does a good job establishing post position and can flash across the middle well. She catches the ball high. Patient around the basket and can finish strong. Good rebounder and good at drawing contact at the basket.
