It’s a simple concept that, well simply goes over the heads of many yet here we are. I had a good look at several players I knew nothing about, either they had not played at an event I have covered or their team didn’t turn in a roster so one more time, you can always find where I’ll be right here
Here’s part 1
Tyniah Smith
Tyniah Smith
Smith went after everything off the rim, I love things you can’t teach and DESIRE is definitely one of them. She scored around the basket, putbacks included but she also attacked the basket strongly and finished after contact. Her defense was solid, she’s long and and athletic which will always be the base, and this helped her apply heat baseline to baseline and help to create turnovers

Jordan is a heady point guard that moved in from Louisiana and she brings so much to the table for her team that they’re one of the favorites to represent Region 3 in the State Tournament. She understands how to control the tempo, as well as get her teammates involved early and watching her direct traffic was refreshing. Her court vision was nice, in the set as well as in transition, she scored off the dribble and showed she could drop the jumper and her defense was solid, so was her playing the passing lane

Dangerfield got plenty of respect from me after catching her for the first time as she too is “long and athletic” so what are her intangibles. Well she defends inside the paint as well as “on the ball” the length of the floor. She has a nice first step to attack the basket and finish after contact, solid body control included. She creates her shot from outside and elevates on her jumper from midrange, she also hits the boards on both ends of the court
Reid reads the floor on both ends and her playing the passing lane was a plus, she’s also long and athletic, yet the pluses kept adding up when you factor in she sees the floor very well. Her decision making was nice, she played within herself and understand show to get hers ” in the flow” and let me also add she plays multiple positions well, on both ends of the court
Jacwueline Oba
Jacwueline Oba
Oba was another player that went after everything and when I write AFTA, I need to add the #THROWBACK hashtag which is fitting because she actually threw a few back. She strong and powerful around the basket, she scored a few times with players literally hanging on her yet her sheer desire to want the ball included diving on the floor in crowds. Her defense was solid, she also played the passing lane a few times
Synarea Reece
Synarea Reece
Reece put several pieces together on the court as she showed she could play multiple positions to go with being “long and athletic”. She has a deceptive first step she uses to get to the basket and showed solid body control on her finishes, after contact. She also made nice passes under pressure, her on the ball defense was solid and she did a good job playing the passing lane
