Continue ReadingPrep Girls Hoops Missouri was on the scene at St. Joseph’s Academy to watch the first day of its annual Turkey Shootout. The event features four of the state’s top programs in Columbia Rock Bridge, John Burroughs, Eureka and the host St. Joseph’s Angels. In the first game on Friday, St. Joseph’s defeated Eureka 62-59. In the second game, John Burroughs defeated Rock Bridge 60-44.
Here is a look at some of the top Class of 2024 players who we watched on Friday.
Allie Turner Allie Turner 5'8" | CG John Burroughs | 2024 State MO (John Burroughs): The 5’8″ Gonzaga recruit is a smooth as silk performer with great court vision and three-level scoring ability. She does an excellent job of passing her teammates open for easy scoring opportunities. She also creates her own offense off the dribble and she has extended shooting range past the 3-point line.
Kayla Jansen (St. Joseph’s): A 6’4 forward who controlled the action in the paint in the Angels victory over Eureka as she had a had a game-high 18 points and 13 rebounds. She sat for much of the first quarter after picking up two early fouls, but once she re-entered the game, she was a dominant force. She has good mobility as she runs the court easily and she is very fluid with her moves in the low post. She is also presence on the defensive side with her length as she can block and challenge shots inside.
Monet Witherspoon (John Burroughs): A 5’8″ guard who can do just about everything to help her team win. She is a talented offensive player, but she really excels as a defender and rebounder. She really leans into it, which should make her an attractive collegiate prospect. She is very effective on the full-court press with her anticipation. On offense, she can get downhill on the drive and knock down the 3-pointer.
Abby Sievers Abby Sievers 5'11" | SG St. Josephs Academy | 2024 State MO (St. Joseph’s): The 6’0″ forward had a very strong game with 13 points and 10 rebounds against Eureka. She displayed the ability to stretch the defense with her 3-point shooting. She moves very well without the ball and go a few buckets off her cutting and she set a solid screen and could score on the roll down.
Bailey Boulay Bailey Boulay 6'0" | SF Eureka | 2024 State MO (Eureka): The 6’0″ forward scored a team-high 20 points as she displayed her versatile skill set. She is a matchup problem with her height and ability to operate in the paint and on the perimeter. She can hit 3-pointers off the pick and pop and she could attack close outs by putting the ball on the floor on the drive.
Zoe Stewart Zoe Stewart 5'7" | CG St. Joseph's Academy | 2024 State MO (St. Joseph’s): A 5’8″ point guard who scored 11 points in the victory over Eureka. The lefty floor general is strong with the ball with solid handles and good court vision. She dropped some impressive dimes in the pick and roll and she was hitting the open 3-pointer.
