Bouaphanh did a little bit of everything yet her poise under pressure stood out throughout the PGH Top 250 Expo. Looking back at my notes, I saw a pattern from catching her with her club team but she also showed me another side as she made my SHOOTERS article from the event. Yes, she did a good job of distributing the ball to right teammate at the right time and her court vision in transition was also nice but when the defender gave her room, she dropped the mid to long-range and also scored off the dribble
Minnit gave me a glimpse of what was coming the first MINUTE I saw her probably 4 years ago and her sheer DESIRE on both ends of the court told me a lot. She falls into that #sizedontmatter category I love to profile because she can play. She has speed but also speed with the ball and understands how to accelerate at the right time to hit teammates in traffic. She also drops it from outside, mid to long-range and when you factor in her numerous moves to create her shot and get spacing to drop it while being defended, that’s HUGE but so is her directing traffic
Polk plays her role to a T and when you are skilled and comprehend the little things that turn out to be big, well you’re way ahead of the game and if you go back to her write up in July, you sort of get a glimpse. Let me also add her “wanting the ball” in pressure situations and that’s when the BB-IQ really stands out because she knows how to set her teammates up for gimmes in crunch time yet she also can drop the jumper as well as score off the dribble down the stretch. Her defense is also solid, in the set as well as full court
Highlights
Warehime showed me another side of her game at the PGH Top 250 Expo when she was featured in my “The Glue” article. It fits because she does the little things that hold everything together like dropping a jumper or an assist to start or stop runs yet changing the momentum of the game has always been big in my eyes. Her ability to keep the defender guessing in transition was very nice because she can drop it in transition as well as thread the needle in the open court but her understanding positioning to outrebound taller players had me smiling
