Mauriana Hashemian-Orr Mauriana Hashemian-Orr 5’6″ | PG Benson Tech | 2024 State OR , who is committed to be a Gael at St. Mary’s next season, has been a foundational player in Benson’s success. Often running the point for the Techsters, she not only puts her talented teammates in positions to succeed, but is the type of point guard who can score it herself. She has a quick, beautiful shot and is a fun athlete to watch create when the ball is in her hands, which earned her second team all-PIL honors last year. She and Benson are looking like they could absolutely be state champions at the end of the season.

Buchanan is precisely the type of point guard that is every coach’s dream. Her high basketball IQ is obvious, she has incredible handles, and she is constantly making the right pass at the right time. When the moment comes, however, she is not afraid to step up and hit the big shot with her beautiful stroke. She is also a leader on the defensive end where she frequently gets the ball back for her team. She often has games where she makes major contributions in a variety of ways like 9 points, 7 assists, and 8 steals against Roseburg; 21 points, 5 rebounds, 2 steals versus McNary; 10 points, 7 rebounds, 9 assists in the first bout with Westview; and 21 points, 5 rebounds, and 2 steals in their second game. Buchanan was extremely impressive to watch in person and is a huge reason why Forest Grove is undefeated at 7-0.
Morgan Raleigh
Morgan Raleigh
Raleigh won the WaFd Bank Oregon Girls Athlete of the Week honor a few weeks ago for November 27-December 3 after her 16 point, 4 assist, 2 rebound game against Newberg. She is another crafty point guard who creates as a scorer, passer, and defender, as seen by her 13-point, 2-rebound, 4-assist, and 5-steal game versus West Albany; 9 points, 4 assists, and 2 steals in the West Salem game; and her impressive 8 points, 8 assists, and 4 steals playing against Summit. She is constantly at the front of the pack for points, assists, and steals for the Irish as she is thriving in her floor general role.
Lilly Jordan
Lilly Jordan
Westside Christian, an extremely talented team, is currently in the top 10 of the 3A rankings with Lilly Jordan as their crafty point guard. She had 16 points, 3 assists, and 2 rebounds versus Neah-Kah-Nie; 10 points, 4 assists, and 3 rebounds over Trinity Lutheran; 7 points, 9 assists in the win over Dayton; and 7 points, 6 assists in the win over Seaside. Numbers as incredible and balanced as these show Jordan’s immense ability to contribute all over the floor wherever the Eagles need her to do so, and they will need her to continue this great point guard play to achieve their high postseason hopes.
Alyana Ramirez Alyana Ramirez CG Woodburn | 2024 State OR
Alyana Ramirez Alyana Ramirez CG Woodburn | 2024 State OR
Although Woodburn is struggling to put any W’s in the win column so far this season, the brilliant play of Alyana Ramirez Alyana Ramirez CG Woodburn | 2024 State OR is a bright spot that should not be ignored. Night in and night out, she is having big games for the Bulldogs and she is constantly bearing the majority of the scoring load for her squad in addition to leading her team. Coming off of a second team all-Mid-Willamette Conference junior season, Ramirez is constantly putting up stat-lines like her 18 points, 2 assists, 3 rebounds, 2 steals, and 2 blocks against Thurston. She can shoot or drive and finish at the rim, but her pass-first instincts are obvious, especially when she pushes the ball in transition, something she excels at.
Kaliyah Chronister
Kaliyah Chronister
Another baller at the point guard spot who I have gotten to watch in person, Chronister is an energizer bunny who is everywhere for the Falcons. She can shoot from deep, lead the offensive push, and plays fiery defense on her matchups. Many of her nights are well-balanced with performances like 11 points, 6 rebounds, 6 assists, and 1 steal against West Salem or 10 points, 4 rebounds, 7 assists, and 6 steals versus Barlow. Although Liberty has struggled to string a lot of wins together, they have played close with several very good teams in an extremely challenging preseason schedule. It will be fun to see Chronister and her squad continue to play hard and put together some more W’s as they settle into Metro League play in the coming weeks.
