Here is a look at the Starting Five from Wednesday night’s action at Visitation: All five of these players were standout performers in leading their teams to victory in the five games I watched.
Zoe Best Zoe Best 5'10" | SF Incarnate Word Academy | 2024 State MO (Incarnate Word): The 5’10” 2024 forward scored a game-high 19 points in the Red Knights’ victory over Hickman in the semifinals. She plays the game with a relentless motor and it was on display from the opening tip. The scoring was just a small part of what she was accomplishing as she was also rebounding, playing tenacious defense and getting after loose balls with reckless abandon. SEMO is getting a good one in this talented forward who just keeps getting better and better.

Monet Witherspoon (John Burroughs): A 5’8″ 2024 guard who scored a game-high 17 points in the Bombers victory over Cardinal Ritter. She was cash money from 3-point range as she knocked down five triples, with all of them coming from the corners. Each made 3-pointer seemed to come at a critical part of the game. In addition to her excellent shooting, she contributed her usual strong effort on the defensive end and on the boards.

Bailey Boulay Bailey Boulay 6'0" | SF Eureka | 2024 State MO (Eureka): The 5’11” 2024 forward enjoyed the most impressive individual outing of any player at the tournament on Wednesday. She scored 32 points and made six 3-pointers in the Wildcats’ victory over Pattonville in the consolation bracket. She really had it going from long distance throughout the game. She ended the first half with a step-back 25-footer at the buzzer. In the second half, she took a 3-pointer, and yelled “Off!” thinking it was going to miss. It swished through the net. To top off a great night, she also scored her 1,000th career point in the same game.

Aleyce Edwards Aleyce Edwards 5'4" | PG Kennett | 2027 State MO (Lift for Life): The 5’7″ 2027 guard had an excellent all-around game in the Hawks big victory over Cape Notre Dame in the fifth-place semifinals. She scored a team-high 19 points, but she also played a strong overall floor game with good passing and strong defense as she was part of the Hawks swarming full-court pressure that broke open a close game in the third quarter.

Paige Dolrenry (Cor Jesu): The 5’11” 2024 had a big game in the Chargers victory over Parkway West in the consolation bracket. She scored a game-high 25 points and she did it in a variety of ways. She was scoring on the drive and was also slipping in the lane on good cuts off the ball. She also displayed a nice shooting touch from the perimeter.
