The following evaluations are guards that caught my attention.
Every time I have seen Moss over the last few seasons, she has improved different parts of her games. A lights out three point shooter, she is continuing to increase her speed. With the ability to shoot from deep and beat you off the dribble, opponents must guard her honest. When she drove in the paint, I saw her use her size to draw contact and get to the line. A next level player with loads of talent yet to be tapped into.
Highlights
Z’Nyah Eaden
Z’Nyah Eaden
Eaden plays with a willingness to her game. She is a flat out hustler. Perhaps she’s not a leading score (at the moment) but role players are necessary on every team. She did a great job working the baseline to get in the paint. She drives in and makes great passes. I always saw Eaden drive in against multiple defenders that were bigger than her and finish a tough and one play.
Jennings is a long lefty. With her 6 foot plus length, she will stretch the defense. For a guard her size, she handles the pressure well on the perimeter. She serves as a primary ball handler for her team and has a good concept of moving the ball inside in order to open up the outside. Inside, you’ll notice her leaping ability, as she’s shoulders above everyone soaring for boards.
Alina Martin
Alina Martin
In today’s game you don’t see too many true point guards, but Martin is just that. She is a true facilitator. As the team’s senior floor general she runs the show with confidence. What stood out to me was her decision making when leading the break in transition. Again, she is a posed player as she understands how to set her team up for an easy basket whether in transition or in the half court setting. She will look to attack and uses her high IQ to find the seams in the lane to get to the basket.
Ivy Oliver
Ivy Oliver
Oliver plays with a real patience to her game. On the perimeter, she catches the ball, assesses what options the defense is giving her, and then uses her strength to get past the on ball defender. She then counters the second line of defense with a move to the basket. She can also shoot the three ball. She showed crafty finishes to the basket and I think once she adds the mid range jump shot to her game she will be a deadly threat!
Kendal Mosley
Kendal Mosley
Mosley is a combo guard , as can slash to the basket or shoot a high percentage jumper from outside. She sees the windows and looks to get to the basket and either pull up for the jumper or kick the ball out to an open teammate. She has good court vision and is very aware of her surroundings. Keeping the defense honest, I saw her feeling the defense sagging off of her as she was bringing the ball up the floor and pull up to nail the long three.
Dashia Johnson
Dashia Johnson
Johnson is a fun on ball defender to watch. This trackstar has excellent footwork, and this makers her a lockdown defender. I saw her make the guard bringing the ball up the floor change directions more than 4 times because of her ability to beat her to the spot. She makes it her mission to beat her man to the spot and it’s fun to see a player take such pride on defense. Don’t let her get a steal and breakaway in the open court because that means an easy basket. She has the ability to switch hands with the ball in the air as she finishes.
Landry Sherrer
Landry Sherrer
Sherrer is a go to player fo her team. Her game has an old school finesse to it as she plays under control and is a flat out playmaker. She kept her team in the game with threes, and did an excellent job curling off screen(s) to shoot. Sherrer is also a consistent spot up shooter. Her team plays in a very structured offense, and in this she is able to effortlessly find teammates in a position to score. A player that will help any team grow at the next level.
