I was able to attend the event at the St Monica location during the morning. Here’s a look at some of the standouts I saw.
1. Shadel French – St Monica 2024
French stood out for her play in the paint and around the basket. She’s a finisher at the rim and she runs the floor well in transition. Can handle the ball a little bit. Good length defensively, able to contest drives well and be a shot blocker around the basket. Athletic and good rebounding instincts.
2. Rebecca Maldonado – St Pius X-St. Matthias
Maldonado was a high scoring guard with a nice shot. Good three point shooter off the catch. Good ball handler who pushes the tempo on the break and can hit the pull up jumper in transition. Attacks closeouts and uses fakes to get the defense out of position. Decent rebounder for a guard.
3. G’layah Salazar – St Mary’s Academy 2026
Salazar is a big guard with playmaking skills. Good passer in the halfcourt attacking the paint and kicking the ball out. Good footwork in the halfcourt; capable shot creator and can hit the pull up in the midrange. Good off the dribble game. Uses step through moves and can finish at the basket.
4.

– St Mary’s Academy 2024
McGregory stood out as a solid guard capable of playing with the ball in her hands or playing off her teammates. Consistent three point shooter especially from the corners. Does well navigating off ball screens, spotting up and shooting. Relocates after initial pass.
