JJ Glass-Barnes JJ Glass-Barnes 5'8" | CG The Prairie School | 2025 State WI
It’s rare to find kids under 5-10 that can dominate around the basket, but that’s what Glass-Barnes does best. She possesses a combination of speed, power, and bounce, making her the most challenging guard to contain when she gets two feet in the paint. Even when she’s played against other D1 commits, also known for being elite athletes, Glass-Barnes still stood out athletically. There aren’t many kids that can do what she does in the country.
Before the season started, I got to sit in on a Menomonee Falls open gym, and it’s hard to describe, but Warren might be the most athletic guard in the state. The little things she does that maybe two or three other people can do are eye-popping. I don’t mean her grabbing the rim or winning sprints by 1000 feet. It’s things like balancing on one foot to keep a ball in bounds after stopping on a dime sprinting after a loose ball, body control when going as fast as possible, or her acceleration that happens in her first two steps. If she can put everything together, her ceiling gets exorbitantly higher.
I’ve talked about Lodes likely being a track kid at the next level, but how she plays with her athleticism at the high school is good enough that she probably would earn a scholarship playing basketball. She has solid size at 5-11, runs the floor at a high level, and has the lateral quickness that would make a coach comfortable having her defend elite-scoring guards or wings. Even on the offensive end, Lodes can do a little of everything. Lodes has hit big perimeter shots in high-profile games, attacks the rim off the dribble, and can rebound well on the offensive end of the floor.
Lilly Meulemans Lilly Meulemans 5'8" | PG Appleton East | 2025 State WI
Even after a severe knee injury, Meulemans is still one of the most explosive guards you’ll find in Wisconsin. She’s a high-level scorer kid, and relentless energy on the floor makes that first part of the sentence check out. Meulemans is one of the few kids I’ve seen separate in fast breaks by a significant amount. The wilder part of Meuleman’s return to the floor is that she looks significantly better than she did a year ago. The starkest difference is her shooting. Last season, she struggled to shoot from the perimeter. Now, she’s one of the best at shooting in the FVA. Things like that don’t just happen. The amount of work she put in while rehabbing that knee injury is unreal, and now she’s playing like one of the top players in the FVA.
