Here are the District Champions for the regular season for girls’ high school basketball at the 4A level.
District Champions
1-4A: Kirtland Central
The Broncos, 23-3 overall, defeated Gallup Monday night, 60-44, securing the top seed in District 1-4A and giving Kirtland a District best, 10-1 record. Kirtland’s Big 3 — senior Emilia Clani Emilia Clani PG Kirtland Central | 2024 State NM , senior Kiera Beall-Gleason and eighth grader Allyson Tsosie — have been fantastic in the halfcourt, understanding when to attack and create with dive cuts, skip passes and drives off the bounce.
2-4A: Pojoaque Valley
The Elkettes went 7-2 in District, finishing with a 15-12 record overall. Pojoaque Valley defeated Los Alamos 47-44, in a deciding third game Monday night to claim the no. 1 seed for the District Tournament. Although PV lost the first two matchups head-to-head — 45-53 & 41-50 — the Elkettes were still in the hunt due to their overall District record. Freshman Monique Arrietta, a 5’1″ PG led the way averaging 12 points per game on 43 percent from the field, to go along with 3.1 rebounds, and 1.6 steals in the 12 District games.
3-4A: Deming
Deming went undefeated in District play going 6-0. For the season, the Wildcats are 14-10 overall, currently on a eight game winning streak! First option, Jacqueline Aquayo, led the Wildcats in several statistical categories such as Minutes (26.5) Points per Game (12) SPG (3.2) 3PM (22) & 3PA (104).
4-4A: Artesia
The Bulldogs capped of District play with a 5-1 record, getting Artesia to 19-6 overall. Winners of their last four, the Bulldogs are finding their rhythm at the right time of the year. Senior Lorin Wagner Lorin Wagner 6'0" | C Artesia | 2024 State NM and junior Hattie Harrison Hattie Harrison 5'11" | PF Artesia | 2025 State NM each possess good size — 6’0″ & 5’11” respectively — resulting in the tandem being tough to contain in the interior, especially on the offensive glass.
5-4A: SPX
SPX is the hottest team in 4A, winning their last 17 games! For the time being, the Sartans are 22-3 and have a great chance of making a deep playoff run in the 2024 State Championships. Backcourt running mates Alyssa Maes Alyssa Maes 5'8" | SG St. Pius X | 2024 State NM & Catalina Anaya Catalina Anaya 5'5" | PG St, Pius X | 2025 State NM compliment one another in terms of their specialties. SPX relies on Maes to get buckets while Anaya is tasked with guarding the oppositions’ best perimeter player.
6-4A: ABQ. Academy
The Chargers went 7-1, scoring an average of 48.3 points per game in District play. Forward Adeline Spratley Adeline Spratley 5'11" | C ABQ. Academy | 2026 State NM averaged 14.1 points, 6.3 rebounds, 1.8 steals and 1 block for ABQ. Academy, who sits at 19-6 overall and is expected to have home-court in the Round of 16 come March.
