Doniphan entered the game undefeated and ranked No. 1 in the Class 4 rankings while Notre Dame is currently ranked No. 5 in Class 4 and the preeminent power in SEMO.
The game more than lived up to the hype as Doniphan edged Notre Dame 55-53 in an overtime thriller. Here are three takeaways from last night’s SEMO showdown.
BATTLE OF THE BIGS
The game featured two talented post players in 6’1 2024 Kenzie Redus Kenzie Redus 6'1" | PF Doniphan | 2024 State MO of Doniphan and 6’2 2026 Nevaeh Lucious Nevaeh Lucious 6'3" | PF Cape Notre Dame | 2026 State MO of Notre Dame and both of showed out on Wednesday.
Redus was strong from start to finish as she scored 25 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. She did a great job of scoring inside throughout the game. She calmly sank the two game winning free throws with 18 seconds left in overtime to break a 53-53 tie.
Lucious led Notre Dame with 18 points while also blocking and altering shots at the defensive end. She scored on an offensive putback late then sank a 3-pointer at the end of regulation to send the game into overtime.

STATEMENT WIN FOR DONIPHAN
Doniphan is now 18-0 with a No. 1 ranking, yet this was a big statement win for the Donettes over a Notre Dame program that has been the best in the SEMO area in recent years, including a Class 5 Final Four appearance last season.

DISTRICT REMATCH LOOMS ON HORIZON
There is a very good chance that these two teams will meet again in the postseason. Both have been placed in District 1, so a likely rematch would happen in the championship game. The one difference is that Cape Notre Dame is the host site of the district.
