Briar Woods had their most successful season this year in their school’s history, capturing their first district title. Their five fantastic seniors were massive reasons why. Giuliana Bohmer Giuliana Bohmer 5’7″ | SG Briar Woods | 2024 State VA was one of the players that I felt flew under the radar early. Giuliana is a tremendous shooter and was this team’s second-leading scorer. She is consistent, and when their starting PG, Tia Chen Tia Chen 5’2″ | PG Briar Woods | 2024 State VA , went down Giuilana did a solid job.
Toward the end of the season, few players in NOVA shot the basketball better than Addie Hafer Addie Hafer 5’5″ | SG Stone Bridge | 2024 State VA . She had some big games shooting, including a game where she broke Stone Bridge’s single-game record with 8 threes. Addie is an intelligent basketball player, and she was a significant reason a young Stone Bridge team may have surprised people.
Robinson has been a borderline powerhouse in NOVA over the past three years. Their defense is suffocating, and everyone always seems to play hard. Elizabeth Barry Elizabeth Barry 5’9″ | SF Robinson | 2024 State VA has been massively important over the past couple of years. She is a great defender and can shoot the ball. She was Robinson’s second-leading scorer and had some big performances.
Oakton is another team that really gets after it defensively. Oakton is always well-coached and gritty. Finley Tarr Finley Tarr 5’6″ | PG Oakton | 2024 State VA does both these things while also being talented offensively. Finley runs a lot of offense for Oakton; whenever I watch her, she makes big plays. She competes defensively and does well as a driver. The Concorde district is tough, and she was one of its better guards.
Sabina Niedrick Sabina Niedrick 5’9″ | SG Woodson | 2024 State VA is one of the most opportunistic defenders I’ve seen. She forces steals and does a great job getting transition and creating offense. She is a good athlete with nice size. Sabina’s best skill is her ability to knock down threes. She is a lights-out shooter, and Woodson had a nice run in postseason play, and she was the leader of that.
I didn’t have Maureen Tremblay Maureen Tremblay 6’0″ | PF Meridian | 2024 State VA on my radar coming into this year, but as the year wore on, she quickly became one of my favorite players to watch. She does everything well for a big. She can knock down shots, defends, and is a tremendous passer. She led her team in rebounding and assists and was the best player on an outstanding Meridian team. Her battle in the state final against Emmy Stout Emmy Stout 6’2″ | C Liberty Christian | 2024 State VA was fun; she put up a monster double-double. She was as good as anyone in the region and spearheaded an outstanding Meridian team.
