In the article below, we highlight five prospects that put together rememberable high school careers. So rememberable that I wouldn’t be surprised if each one of these players got a college look or two prior to graduation in a few short months.
Thanks for tuning in and enjoy!
Ahmani Klabunde comes into this final 2024 Update ranked in the 80’s out of her 2024 Class but don’t let that fool you. She would school a lot of others Guards that are ahead of her on this list in a 1 on 1 situation. Klabunde is impressive in her movements and skill on the floor. She is a Combo Guard that is very good in transition and especially in the open court with space. As soon as she has some space and she is going down hill, it’s almost impossible to stop her. Once she gets near the basket, her body control while finishing layups is second-to-none. Not to mention that she is a high level rebounder that played the bottom of her team’s zone throughout the past couple of seasons. As it pertain to quick guards, who can change the outcome of a game in the blink of an eye, Klabunde is in that conversation for me. She does a lot of positive things on the court that would translate to the next level. If there is a coach or two out there still looking for a play maker, this one could be it for you.
The play-style of Keatyn Musiel Keatyn Musiel 5’11” | SF Lincoln East | 2024 NE on the basketball court was impressive this Senior season for her Lincoln East High School team. Musiel is a prospect that understands her role and she plays it to a T. She played the bottom of her team’s 2-3 zone this season, always finding an opponent while trying to box out off of a miss. This is something that is important for a number of reasons but mostly because it shows she cares about the little details while trying to help her fellow teammates. On every shot attempt she was either rebounding hard or boxing out. Offensively, she mixed things up at a good rate while playing efficiently. She didn’t take bad shots a majority of the time and she was never the one to rush a decision on either side of the ball. Musiel is a multi-sport athlete that always has some decent size and agility for what size. Every time she is coming down the floor she is trying to do her work early and beat her opponent. If she doesn’t get there in time, she never stops moving making it very difficult for others to stay with her. This season and over her high school career, she has been someone that has always been a solid teammate. She should be proud of the year she put together looking back. She made a difference each night and that’s something that is not up for debate.
Mya Lempp Mya Lempp 5’8″ | PG Papillion LaVista South | 2024 NE had her season cut short due to an injury that she sustained early on in the 2024 calendar year but that doesn’t take away from anything she did during her time on court. Lempp was a vital piece to her teams success this past 3-4 years, no matter which way you put it. She moved between the 2, 3, and 4 position for her PLVS squad. On every shot attempt, she displayed a balanced shot form, coordinated stance, and quick trigger when the ball hit her hands. Coming down the floor in transition she always managed to keep her eyes up with the willingness to make a pass to any open teammate up the floor. She brought a lot of positives to the floor but her best ability was shooting the ball from deep. Like I said, on every open attempt she had, if she had time to let it fly, the shot looked like it was going to be good and even when she was sped up, she usually still got a good shot attempt off. It’s a shame that her high school career came to an end how it did but if she comes back healthy, it’s not crazy to think that should maybe could compete again. She definitely has the skill to play at the next level, she would just need to find the ideal fit for herself. Which is still more than possible at this point but it all depends on her recovery and how she is feeling about her future.
Highlights
When you talk about Paris Devers Paris Devers 5’4″ | PG Omaha Central | 2024 NE , you are talking about a game manager. Someone that understands pace of play, the teammates around her, situational basketball, and her own ability with the ball in her hands. Devers may only stand at 5’4 but her game plays much bigger than that. She is the type to scream after an AND1 or let an opponent know about it after a tough bucket, displaying her confidence on a number of different levels. I may sound like a broken record but this is another prospect that needs to get onto a collegiate roster. From my research she isn’t committed anywhere but she was an important piece this past Varsity season for her team, while being a killer on the AAU circuit this past spring. Everything about her play-style and production screams college so I would be shocked if she didn’t get a call or two this Spring. Her high school career may be over but if she wants it, her basketball journey is really just getting started.
There is a lot I could say about Ava Boyce Ava Boyce 5’7″ | SG Gretna | 2024 NE but the best part of her game is how she FEASTS on defense. Boyce is a 5’4 PG, that displays active hands and feet on floor. She is someone that understands the risk-reward part of the game, usually creating a lot of steals against any opponent that she is matching up against. This past Varsity season, Boyce killed it on defense and that led to a lot of great offense for her teammates in transition. She was a prospect that you can mark down for at least 3 steals throughout the duration of game, all while running her teams offense on that side of the ball. None of this surprises me though. When I had a chance to see Boyce this past Spring, she was doing the same thing. Getting her hands on deflected passes and turning that into buckets on the other end. If we are talking about one of the best Guard defenders throughout this 2024 Class in Nebraska, she is definitely in that conversation after the high school career she just put together. A year that she is going to be able to look back on in the future and smile at.
