Sport Complex in Edmund, Oklahoma. Scouts Johnny Vick, Sam Duren and I caught games at the two facilities. Below are several of the standouts I saw.
Do not judge Thomas on her small stature. She is a physical point guard with the handles to not just clear the ball out of trouble but also to create in the half court. Late in a very competitive game she showed poise in knocking down a pair of needed free throws.
Highlights
Beal is a slender point guard who I expect will have shaved down some of the rough edges to her game by summer’s end. While she can get ahead of herself in transition in the handling department Beal looks to direct traffic, passes well up the floor, and is athletic on finishing attempts. She draws contact well but needs to see an uptick in her free throw makes. A developing floor leader.
Hastings is a smart player who contributes a variety of abilities to her team. A good free throw shooter who also knocked down shots in the mid-range and from beyond the arc. While she lacks natural speed and quickness she makes up for it with smarts and creativity.
Highlights
At 6’2″ Brown is hard not to notice. I liked her length and competitiveness on the boards on both ends of the floor. She was primarily impactful on the defensive end. While I would have liked to seen her work defending in the post in other positions than from behind she did show an ability to alter and block shots without fouling.
