All had 2-3 more games ahead of them. I was unable to get full looks at all teams for my Day 1 report but I filled in a lot of blanks on day 2. Enjoy a look at more standout players.
Sophia Benke Sophia Benke 5'6" | SG Warrenton | 2027 MO , SG, Missouri Phenom -Columbia 2027, Warrington (MO), 2027 – Benke was among the best shooters in the event and she shoots it with a quick trigger and with range. One game she knocked down five threes in a half.
Jalynn Brown Jalynn Brown 5'10" | PF Benton | 2027 MO , CG, Missouri Phenom 2027, St. Joe Boone, Benton (MO), 2027 – Brown is a smooth wing who can played inside and out. She gathered well off the offensive rebound, scored with athleticism and hit the corner three in rhythm.
Hailey Caryl, 5’11”, C, Missouri Phenom Topeka, Topeka (KS), 2028 – Caryl improved game over game. She has great physical size with good footwork and hands. Her scoring ability off interior moves set up passing opportunities to shooters. She hustled and ran well in transition to get involved in transition plays. Her size and decent footwork made life difficult for opposing bigs working for scores.
Jaylen Cauthron, PG, Team Trae Young 3SSB 2027, Idavel (OK), 2027 – Cauthron not only showed terrific quickness but she also may just be the fastest. A very tough on-ball defender Cauthron exploded to the basket through defensive gaps. And off the steal. Just gone. Forgetaboutit! And on the finish Cauthron does so at speed, extension and a low of air under her.
Lucchese Chaney, 5’7″, SG, Team Trae Young 2027 Scarborough, Sapulpa (OK), 2027 – Chaney impressed me with her prowess as a mid-range and perimeter shooter. With a quick release off the catch she just kept knocking down shots. Chaney also has good size and speed.
Alexis Davis Alexis Davis 5'6" | PG Sloan-Hendrix | 2027 MO , 5’6″, CG, Missouri Nets 2027, Imboden (AR), 2027 – Davis not only showed quickness on her mid-range jumper but also smarts defending in transition. She knows when to attack and when to give ground to give potential scorers the opportunity to show the ball for her to deflect or outright steal.
Amira Harrison, SG, Team Trae Young 2027 Scarborough, Midwest City MS (OK), 2029 – Harrison was not to be underestimated when she subbed in. The small, okay…tiny, guard showed bigtime game. She worked over defenders with not just her handles with quickness and decisiveness but also defensively. She understood opposing teams would isolate on her on drives and would use good footwork to stay with the ball and yet give ground to contest finishes. Harrison passed well and proved herself to be a perimeter shooting threat with a quick release off the catch.
Makambri Hastings Makambri Hastings 5'7" | PG Salina Central | 2027 KS , 5’7″, PG, Lady PGUHoops 2027, Salina Central (KS), 2027 – During a time-out early in the second half of the team’s first game, I had arrived late first half, I asked the referees who they thought was standing out for them. The team was trying to stem a big run from their opponent. Both liked what Hastings was doing and said she was the one holding things together. That’s a big complement I couldn’t ignore. What she showed throughout the second half and the rest of the day she consistently showed solid ball skills, terrific poise when trapped and solid smarts.
Jhazmyn Herron, PG, Team Trae Young 2027 Scarborough, Union (OK), 2027 – Herron is a strong and fast point guard that pushed tempo. She made accurate passes down the floor and found teammates inside with solid bounce passes. Herron also shot well from the perimeter with a quick release.
Makenna Kirby Makenna Kirby 5'5" | PG Doniphan | 2027 MO , 5’6″, CG, Missouri Nets 2027, Doniphan (MO), 2027 – Kirby’s is a hard-working, quick defender who also showed good strength boxing out and pushing passes down the floor. Kirby has a quick release and release point on her perimeter shot.
Taylin Krafels Taylin Krafels 5'9" | SG Buhler | 2027 KS , 5’9″, PF, Lady PGUHoops 2027, Buhler (KS), 2027 – Krafels is a strong minded, fast and athletic big. She jumped to the ball well rebounding, ran the ball down after a turnover to challenge finishes and showed the quickness to play the top of full court zone pressure. Through three hard fought games she showed consistent resilience.
Cate Smith, 6’2″, PF, Missouri Phenom Columbia 2027, Rock Bridge (MO), 2028 – Smith is a hard working post player who used a variety of moves to get a shot off inside. She also showed awareness and strength to find shooters when she was stuck inside. Smith also defended other bigs inside consistently well.
Lexy Smith, 5’7”, PG, Kansas Elite 2027, Chillicothe (MO), 2028 – Smith has a scorers mentality. She goes at defenders to draw contact on shots and finishes at speed with athleticism. She also hits her free throws to complete the “And 1.”
Lanie Stokes, PG, Missouri Flight 2027, Marionville (MO), 2027 – Stokes is not only fast with the ball but also very quick. She is savvy to wall up and challenge shots by other means. She also knocked down shots from the extended short corner area as well as from behind the arc.
Madalyne Stokes, 5’11”, C, MO Legacy 2027, Carl Junction (MO), 2027 – Stokes is a solid sized big with long arms and decent north-south speed. While I would like to see it quickened Stokes showed good footwork on post moves.
Blakely Walter Blakely Walter 5'6" | PG Hayden | 2028 KS , SG, Missouri Phenom 2028 Topeka, Washburn Rural (KS), 2028 – Walter had a terrific day and overall showed game-over-game improvement.
Breyonna Wolfe, C, Team Trae Young 2027 Wright, Jenks (OK), 2027 – Wolfe brings size and energy to the paint. She is very active on offensive end and uses her strength to create scoring opportunities and secure rebounds. Among the subtler skills she showed was touch on block entry passes while working from the high post to top of the key areas.
