Last weekend, in Appleton, we had our third PGH Freshman Showcase. I enjoy seeing the new faces of high school basketball before the season, and plenty of players at the event will make their mark on the high school season this winter. Today, we're discussing all the players from Team Four of the 5v5 portion of the event and highlighting what they brought to the floor. We'll keep this up until we wrap up all ten 5v5 teams that played at the Freshman Showcase.

[player_tooltip player_id='1311616' first='Amiah' last='Braxton']

Braxton was among the most impressive ball handlers at the entire event in Appleton. She is a player who sees the floor well and can make plays for herself and others with the ball in her hands. She has the quickness to beat her initial defender off the dribble and make plays getting downhill to the basket. Her ability to break defenses by getting into the paint and with her vision allowed her to excel in 5v5. However, she made everything look simple in the 3v3 portion, which is what impressed me most.

[player_tooltip player_id='1161394' first='Madison' last='Larson']

Lason ran the floor well when I watched her play in the 5v5 portion of the event, particularly in transition. She's a smart player who understands how she can affect the game with or without the ball in her hands. Larson also used her length to get her hands on the ball defensively and make plays on that end of the floor.

[player_tooltip player_id='1214336' first='Sage' last='Meler']

Meler was a handsy guard on the defensive end of the floor. She is a defender who can make life challenging for opposing guards whenever she's matched up with them. I also liked that she was willing to get downhill and put pressure on opposing defenses.

[player_tooltip player_id='874407' first='Eva' last='Kentop']

Kentop is a solid ball handler who won't make many mistakes with the ball in her hands on the offensive end of the floor. She's a player who is willing to move the ball quickly and not hold onto the ball for longer than she needs. I also loved her ability to be an active member of the offense away from the ball and keep the attention of her matchup, which will open the floor for her teammates.

[player_tooltip player_id='903203' first='JeAnna' last='Gonzalez']

Gonzalez is a physical defender who can make plays on the ball on that end of the floor. She has a knack for getting her hands on the ball when she can, but does a solid job of not fouling on that end of the floor. She also brings plenty of energy to that end of the floor. I also like that she can space the floor and knock down shots on the offensive end.
