The basketball season is inching closer, and there are plenty of things I'd like to get posted before the season starts. We're finishing October with the preseason rankings in every division, starting from D5 and ending with D1. I'm sure some things will look silly a few weeks into the season, but that's the fun of getting them posted now and seeing where I'm wrong when the season gets underway. Today, we're looking at D3, D2, and D1. The last article of the month for me will have the full preseason Top Ten Rankings for the remaining divisions, before we move on to some other things before the season tips off on November 18th.

D3 Synopsis: The Sectional Semifinal matchup at Port Washington last year hosted the top two teams heading into the season in D3. Oostburg and Kettle Moraine Lutheran have the elite guard play to make a run. There will be some challenges from upstarts like Winneconne and Edgerton, who have been close to breaking through in D3.

D2 Synopsis: We will have a new champion in D2 after Wauwatosa East was elevated to D1. Edgewood has one of the top backcourts in the state this season, and has a few players looking to grab more prominent roles this winter. Sectional Four programs will have a challenging road to the Resch again, with teams ranked two to four in the same half of that sectional.

D1 Synopsis: The race for Division 1 is as open as it has been for some time. Pewaukee was the runaway favorite last season before injuries struck. In my opinion, the top tier of teams includes Kimberly, Pewaukee, and Arrowhead. However, the next tier of teams that could upset any of those programs is deep, and all of the top ten teams have multiple players who will earn scholarships to play at the next level. It will be a fun season to watch what happens with the large schools in Wisconsin.
