When Evan Bell and Ray Kimball teamed up to launch the first-ever Headliners Invitational back in November of 2023, they set out to create something special for the girls basketball community. After taking a short break in 2024, Evan felt strongly that the Headliners needed to return and establish itself as a premier showcase event. The concept for the Headliners Invitational Showcase came from Evan's experiences observing elite and prospect camps across the state. While each had elements he admired—such as live games, skill work, and recruiting opportunities—he noticed there was still something missing. His goal became clear: to build an event that truly helps girls basketball prospects gain exposure and be recruited by college coaches, aligning perfectly with his mission at Prep Girls Hoops. I'm thankful to have the opportunity to help Evan cover this year's event and continue shining a light on the incredible talent in the gym.

Evan Bell and his team designed the Headliners Invitational Showcase to be much more than just another event—it was built with a clear purpose. Evan wanted to create an opportunity for girls to work directly with college coaches who are actively recruiting, be evaluated by programs that match their current level of play, and receive detailed media coverage from Prep Girls Hoops scouts. Recognizing that every player is different and not all thrive in traditional showcase formats, he emphasized skill-based drills, 3v3 competition, and 5v5 gameplay to give each prospect the best chance to shine in front of college coaches. Each participant wore a numbered jersey tied to detailed college coach packets, ensuring visibility and accessibility for recruitment. With 20 colleges pre-registered and dedicated time for players to connect with coaches after sessions, the event was designed for meaningful exposure and development.

Evan also identified a major gap in the landscape—no showcase opportunities for middle school girls in Michigan. To fill that void, he introduced a middle school session that provided an elite experience led by college coaches and special guests like former WNBA player Jennifer Smith (GLCC Head Coach) and Northwood sharpshooter Makenzie Todd (LCC Assistant). Every middle school participant gained exposure on the Prep Girls Hoops platform, ensuring they are on the radar well before high school. I'm grateful to help Evan cover an event that not only connects current prospects with recruiters but also lays the foundation for the next generation of Michigan basketball talent.

My coverage focused primarily on teams Wings, Lynx and Sparks during the showcase. Here are evaluations for High schoolers representing Team Lynx during session one at the Prepare 2 Win Headliners Invitational.

Peyton played a strong, steady game for Team Lynx, battling hard to establish position in the post and showing great awareness when pressure came her way. When faced with double teams, she stayed composed and found open teammates for quality scoring opportunities. She was active on the boards on both ends, using effort and positioning to secure rebounds and keep plays alive. Peyton's work ethic and unselfish play made her a key contributor for her squad throughout the showcase.

Kendal showed off her skill and confidence for Team Lynx, using a sharp crossover to blow past defenders and create scoring opportunities. She displayed tight handles, excellent court vision, and precision passing while pushing the pace, and she finished a reverse layup with a sweet and-one. Her defensive instincts and quick hands made her a pest on that end, and with her deadly range from beyond the arc, she's a player opponents simply cannot leave open.

Madison had a strong showing for Team Lynx, showing off a smooth outside shot and consistently hitting her box-outs. She consistently battled inside against bigger opponents, using her strength and balance to carve out position and finish tough shots off two feet. Her physicality stood out, as she wasn't afraid to mix it up in the paint on either end of the floor. Halle also brought great energy in transition, running the floor hard and making herself available for easy looks. Her high motor and competitive edge set the tone for her teammates and made her one of the most dependable interior players on the court.

Spencer was a standout for Team Lynx, demonstrating continual growth and refinement in her game with every possession. She combines strength and agility to absorb contact around the rim, finishing through traffic with confidence and consistency. Beyond her interior presence, Spencer showcased her versatility by knocking down shots from behind the arc, stretching defenses and keeping opponents honest. Her relentless work on the glass was a key factor for the team, as she pulled down numerous rebounds on both ends, often sparking fast-break opportunities. Always alert and poised, she made smart decisions with the ball, whether finding open teammates after securing boards or taking smart, high-percentage shots herself. Spencer's combination of toughness, skill, and basketball IQ makes her a constant threat and a player who keeps improving every time she steps on the floor.

Selia put together a strong showing for Team Lynx, showcasing her feel for the game and ability to impact plays without needing the ball in her hands. She moved purposefully through the offense, finding open spots and timing her cuts perfectly—one of which led to a smooth finish at the rim. Her shooting touch was on display as she knocked down a clean wing three, adding valuable spacing for her team. On the boards, Selia battled with determination, fighting for rebounds and keeping possessions alive. Her combination of movement, awareness, and effort made her a steady contributor on both ends of the floor.

Savannah brought great energy to Team Lynx with her scrappy, relentless style of play.
