Friday saw some quality matchups throughout the state. Here were a few that I was paying close attention to:

Hortonville @ Neenah

Prediction: I think this one could go down to the wire but I think the scoring of Klesmit, paired with home court, will be the difference with the Rockets pulling out a very close 63-58 victory.

What actually happened:

In a down shooting night, for both teams, the difference came at the free-throw line where Neenah outscored Hortonville 13-4 in a 54-47 victory. Neenah was led Celia Gentile with 13 and [player_tooltip player_id='533065' first='Rowan' last='Klesmit'] who added 12 to go along with a game high 9 rebounds and a 2-0 start in FVA conference play. Hortonville was led by [player_tooltip player_id='533074' first='Kardyn' last='Peppler'] with 12 points and 7 rebounds.

Manitowoc Lincoln @ Bay Port

Prediction: While I like Manitowoc Lincoln, I think the return of Thompson pushes this in favor of Bay Port 67-56.

What actually happened:

The Ships kept in close, in the first half, trailing by only one at the break however Bay Port broke out and outscored Manitowoc 42-23 in the 2nd half to come away with a 76-56 win. Senior [player_tooltip player_id='736760' first='Melia' last='Lemorande'] led all scorers with 32 points (9/9 from the free-throw line) and 11 rebounds. Junior [player_tooltip player_id='874380' first='Olivia' last='Williams'] added 22, and sophomore [player_tooltip player_id='874389' first='Kailynn' last='Thompson'] added 9 points, 10 rebounds, and 4 assists. The Pirates are averaging 75.5 points, in the last two games, since Williams made her season debut. Manitowoc Lincoln was led by senior [player_tooltip player_id='777580' first='Sarah' last='Bolchen'] with 21 and junior [player_tooltip player_id='750262' first='Kendall' last='Schmitz'] with 20 and 5 rebounds. The schedule doesn't get any easier, for the Ships, with Neenah coming in tomorrow.

Xavier at Milwaukee Academy of Science

Prediction: I don't see Xavier losing two in a row as they go on the road and get a hard fought 58-55 victory over the Novas.

What actually happened: Xavier took care of business going into half with an 11 point lead on the way to a 77-55 road victory. Junior Hailey Hafner led the Hawks with 31 points including five 3-pointers. Senior [player_tooltip player_id='766628' first='Brynn' last='Krull'] added 16 points with four 3-pointers of her own. MAS was led by juniors [player_tooltip player_id='882114' first='Ariell' last='Allen'] and [player_tooltip player_id='743735' first='Kourtlyn' last='Guy'] who both scored 14 for the Novas.

De Pere at Notre Dame Academy

Prediction: I think De Pere keeps it close but I think NDA is too talented to lose three straight as they hand the defending conference champions their first loss, 62-55.

What actually happened: A statement win for the Tritons as they held the defending FRCC champion Cardinals to 12 points in the first half on the way to a 56-39 win. Senior [player_tooltip player_id='842199' first='Kaia' last='Waldrop'], coming off of last season's torn ACL, led Notre Dame with 16 with fellow senior [player_tooltip player_id='1275665' first='Destiny' last='Webster'] added 13. De Pere was led by [player_tooltip player_id='992482' first='Allie' last='Neuenfeldt'] with 13 points.
