Standout 15U Guards of Note at the Heartland Hoopfest

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Here is a look at a group of guards and wings that we watched in the 15U Division from last weekend's Prep Hoops Heartland Hoopfest, which was held in Mattoon, IL.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:image {"id":1835964,"sizeSlug":"large","linkDestination":"none"} --> <figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img src="https://prepgirlshoops.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/4/2026/04/IMG_0887.jpeg?w=1024" alt="" class="wp-image-1835964" /></figure> <!-- /wp:image --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Yazlin Mandujnao (Illinois Valley Warriors): An impressive young point guard who had the speed and quickness to impact the game at both ends of the court. She is solid in the pick and roll and she can also break off a defender and create her own shot off the dribble. She can get into the lane and score on the drive or hit the 3-pointer off the catch. She is also a ball hawk on the defensive end who can put on good pressure on opposing ball handlers.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:image {"id":1833556,"sizeSlug":"large","linkDestination":"none"} --> <figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img src="https://prepgirlshoops.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/4/2026/04/IMG_0889.jpeg?w=1024" alt="" class="wp-image-1833556" /></figure> <!-- /wp:image --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Haley Carracci (Illinois Attack): A 5'8" guard who displayed a nice shooting stroke from 3-point range. She knocked down four triples in the game that I watched her on Saturday afternoon. She also did a good job of attacking close outs to get to the basket on the drive or shoot the one-dribble pull up jumper. She is also a good defensive player who used her length and activity to get deflections and steals.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:image {"id":1835969,"sizeSlug":"large","linkDestination":"none"} --> <figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img src="https://prepgirlshoops.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/4/2026/04/IMG_0908.jpeg?w=1024" alt="" class="wp-image-1835969" /></figure> <!-- /wp:image --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Violet Melton (Blackheart): A 5'7" point guard from Indiana who was one of the most impressive passers that I watched during the weekend. She is a very unselfish player who was also looking to serve her teammates with the pass, which she did very well. She also has very good instincts on the defensive end. She got multiple steals as she was smart in her rotations and she was very good on the second line of the full court press. She was always talking and communicating on defense.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:image {"id":1835971,"sizeSlug":"large","linkDestination":"none"} --> <figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img src="https://prepgirlshoops.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/4/2026/04/IMG_0947.jpeg?w=1024" alt="" class="wp-image-1835971" /></figure> <!-- /wp:image --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Davae Satchell (Angels Basketball): A 5'3" point guard who did an excellent job of making things happen at both ends of the court. She really distributes the ball well in all facets. She was feeding the ball into the low post as well as dropping dimes in the transition game. She also did a good job of scoring in traffic on her dribble penetration into the lane. She is also an excellent on-ball defender who likes to pick up opposing ball handlers in the full court.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:image {"id":1835976,"sizeSlug":"large","linkDestination":"none"} --> <figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img src="https://prepgirlshoops.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/4/2026/04/IMG_0907.jpeg?w=1024" alt="" class="wp-image-1835976" /></figure> <!-- /wp:image --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Eva Masterson (Blackheart): A 5'8" 2031 guard from Southern Illinois who was playing up at the 16U level and did an excellent job. She is a good athlete who used her length to get steals and even block a shot on the perimeter. She was very effective when she was attacking the basket off the dribble. She was also doing a good job of the offensive boards.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:image --> <figure class="wp-block-image"><img alt="" /></figure> <!-- /wp:image --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Jazzaire Moore-Smith (Angels Basketball): A 5'2" point guard who has good quickness and speed. She handles the ball well to operate as a floor leader, but she also plays off the ball well with her ability to hit perimeter jumpers. She hit three 3-pointers in the game that I watched her on Sunday.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph -->
