Standout 16U Forwards at the Heartland Hoopfest

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Here is a look at the top forwards in the 16U Division that we watched at last weekend's Prep Hoops Heartland Hoopfest in Mattoon, IL</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:image {"id":1842482,"sizeSlug":"large","linkDestination":"none"} --> <figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img src="https://prepgirlshoops.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/4/2026/04/IMG_0943_06d2ab.jpeg?w=1024" alt="" class="wp-image-1842482" /></figure> <!-- /wp:image --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Audey Fuglsang (Illinois Valley Warriors): A 6'2" 2028 forward from Central DeWitt (IL) who is a very talented young post player with excellent mobility. I was impressed with her ability to run the floor and score in transition with nice catches on the move. She keeps the ball high and she has a nice scoring touch around the basket. She uses her length and good timing to block shots without fouling.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:image {"id":1842484,"sizeSlug":"large","linkDestination":"none"} --> <figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img src="https://prepgirlshoops.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/4/2026/04/IMG_0849.jpeg?w=1024" alt="" class="wp-image-1842484" /></figure> <!-- /wp:image --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Marlee Williams (Indiana Prospects): A 5'11" 2028 forward from Jeffersonville (IN) who plays the game with a tremendous motor. She plays with physicality and maximum effort at both ends of the court. She was also a good worker on the offensive boards with a good second and third effort to get putbacks. She is also a good passer from out of the post to open shooters and cutters.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:image {"id":1842493,"sizeSlug":"large","linkDestination":"none"} --> <figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img src="https://prepgirlshoops.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/4/2026/04/IMG_0864.jpeg?w=1024" alt="" class="wp-image-1842493" /></figure> <!-- /wp:image --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Julie Wayman (Illinois Havoc Silver): A 5'11" 2028 forward from Taylorville (IL) who had a strong, physical presence in the low post. When she established her position, she was not going to be moved. She had a great seal for a drop step and she also finished with a nice touch in the lane. Her footwork in the lane was very good. She also ran the court well with good mobility. She showed some athleticism on defense when she contested a shot in the mid post area, then reacted quickly to grab the defensive rebound. Carmel (IL) who was excellent in the catch and shoot as she knocked down three 3-pointers in the first game that I watched her. She hit one of the them in the transition game off the smooth catch. She is also a solid ball handler who could get into the lane and create a shot in close. She also made plays on the defensive end with steals in the passing lanes for transition layups.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:image {"id":1842486,"sizeSlug":"large","linkDestination":"none"} --> <figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img src="https://prepgirlshoops.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/4/2026/04/IMG_0848.jpeg?w=1024" alt="" class="wp-image-1842486" /></figure> <!-- /wp:image --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Lorelai Darling (Indiana Prospects): A 5'10" forward from Jeffersonville (IN) who came off the bench in the game I watched to provide some high energy with her defense and rebounding. She was making some good rotations on defense to block shots as well. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:image {"id":1842487,"sizeSlug":"large","linkDestination":"none"} --> <figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img src="https://prepgirlshoops.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/4/2026/04/IMG_0834.jpeg?w=1024" alt="" class="wp-image-1842487" /></figure> <!-- /wp:image --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Sidney Standiford (Indiana Prospects): A 5'11" 2028 forward from Floyd Central (IN) who is very solid player in the low post. She was very good at establishing her position and getting good seals. She could score with a good drop step in the post. She also was good in getting position for rebounding.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:image {"id":1842498,"sizeSlug":"large","linkDestination":"none"} --> <figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img src="https://prepgirlshoops.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/4/2026/04/IMG_0827.jpeg?w=1024" alt="" class="wp-image-1842498" /></figure> <!-- /wp:image --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Kirea Nitz (The Dogs): A 5'9" 2028 forward who displayed some good versatility as she played multiple positions for her team. She could go out on the perimeter and handle the ball and drive it against taller defenders. She also played well in the low post as she was scoring tough buckets inside. She was also a good secondary ball handler on offense. On defense, she was making good rotations to come over for blocks.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph -->
