Standout 16U Shooting Guards and Wings at the Heartland Hoopfest

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Here is a look at a group of standout shooting guards and wings in the 16U division who caught our attention at last weekend's Heartland Hoopfest in Mattoon (IL).</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:image {"id":1845598,"sizeSlug":"large","linkDestination":"none"} --> <figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img src="https://prepgirlshoops.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/4/2026/04/IMG_0796.jpeg?w=1024" alt="" class="wp-image-1845598" /></figure> <!-- /wp:image --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Jude Miller (Illinois Havoc NE2K): A 2028 guard from Cumberland High (IL) who could handle either guard position with equal effectiveness. She has good quickness and was very shifty with the ball to keep defenders off balance. She could score at all three levels. She could stop on the dime and hit the pull up jumper and hit the Corner 3-pointer. She was also locating open teammates with her excellent court vision.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:image {"id":1845599,"sizeSlug":"large","linkDestination":"none"} --> <figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img src="https://prepgirlshoops.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/4/2026/05/IMG_0853.jpeg?w=1024" alt="" class="wp-image-1845599" /></figure> <!-- /wp:image --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Rachel Jones (Indiana Prospects): A talented 2028 guard who is a talented slasher who was consistently getting into the lane and putting points on the board. She could use the jab step of a quick first step to beat defenders into the paint, where she showed a nice float game. She also had a nice pull up jumper as well.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:image {"id":1845602,"sizeSlug":"large","linkDestination":"none"} --> <figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img src="https://prepgirlshoops.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/4/2026/05/IMG_0901.jpeg?w=1024" alt="" class="wp-image-1845602" /></figure> <!-- /wp:image --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Callie DeSutter (Illinois Valley Warriors): A smooth shooting guard who was knocking down 3-pointers off the catch in both games that I watched her. She was also a very good finisher in the transition game where she displayed good body control in the lane. She is also a solid ball handler who made some nifty passes in traffic which led to buckets for open teammates.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:image {"id":1845603,"sizeSlug":"large","linkDestination":"none"} --> <figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img src="https://prepgirlshoops.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/4/2026/05/IMG_0894.jpeg?w=1024" alt="" class="wp-image-1845603" /></figure> <!-- /wp:image --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Ja'Niya Ferguson (Illinois Valley Warriors): A 5'7" guard who has excellent athleticism and who plays with a strong motor. She was at her best on offense when she was slashing into the lane. She was a very capable finisher in the paint with either hand. She was also a ball hawk on the defense end and a very good rebounder from the guard position.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:image {"id":1845604,"sizeSlug":"large","linkDestination":"none"} --> <figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img src="https://prepgirlshoops.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/4/2026/05/IMG_0868.jpeg?w=1024" alt="" class="wp-image-1845604" /></figure> <!-- /wp:image --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Isabella Walk (Illinois Havoc Silver): A talented shooting guard who showed some good fundamentals. I was impressed with how she was entering the ball into the low post, which is a lost art. She was also playing in constant motion as a good cutter who read defenses well. In the second game I saw her, she started to light it up from 3-point range.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:image {"id":1845606,"sizeSlug":"large","linkDestination":"none"} --> <figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img src="https://prepgirlshoops.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/4/2026/05/IMG_0811.jpeg?w=1024" alt="" class="wp-image-1845606" /></figure> <!-- /wp:image --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Kallie Franklin (Kentucky Elite): A 2028 guard who is a high energy player who stayed on the attack during the game I watched. She set up her defenders well before going on the drive. She had a nice spin move in the lane and she didn't mind taking the contact and getting the bucket and the foul.
