The Top 17U Standouts At Midwest Extravaganza (Day One)

The energy was there early, the competition picked up as the day went on, and a few players made sure they left their mark right away. A majority of her highlight plays came from her ability to get to her spots in the midrange and let it go. The form is pure, there is no hesitation, and that opens up the rest of her game. She also made some pinpoint passes that most players would not even try. She picks up full court, she gets through screens, and has no problem playing up on the ball every possession. She's a guard who makes her matchups uncomfortable and never lets them get into a rhythm. Chaney matched up with an ESPN-ranked player and didn't back down once. She was aggressive, attentive, and knew when to gamble versus when to stay solid. The main thing that sets Jones apart is her relentlessness on the boards. She came away with a minimum of 8 offensive boards in both games and was a force on the defensive end as well. Offensively, she showed patience and elite footwork in the post area and didn't need much to get going. She knows how to use her strength and gets things done at her own pace. There were multiple times she facilitated at the top of the key and was calm before initiating an offense. She could be impactful in multiple positions. As a one guard, she has the vision to run the show, as a two guard, she has no hesitation stepping outside the arc to shoot or being aggressive and getting to the rim. As a forward, she usually uses her strength and athleticism to put others at a disadvantage. She showed that in today's matchups. Whether it was getting hot from beyond the arc, or attacking the rim and putting pressure on the defense.
