First things first! I want to thank the TABC staff for allowing scouts from Prep Girls Hoops to attend and evaluate talent at this year's TABC tournament. Organizing and managing an event of this scale—with 60+ colleges in attendance—is an incredible feat. My earlier critique in yesterday's article stemmed from a deep passion for the evaluation process. However, I completely overlooked the massive effort required to execute an event of this size. The reality is, every tournament is bound to have a wide mix of competition levels, but that doesn't diminish TABC's true impact: creating an invaluable showcase for the next generation of talent.

Now, let's move on to the player evaluations for Lorena vs. Fort Bend Bush.

Hmmm… I think we'd better put some respect on the Lorena Leopards' name! I saw a graphic on a player's social media feed listing the top teams to watch at the TABC tournament, and the Leopards were left off the list. But after watching them perform, the local 3A teams in the Waco area are officially being put on notice. The Lorena Leopards are the real deal. They are incredibly deep, talented from players 1 through 10, and exceptionally well-coached.

While Fort Bend Bush struggled to match Lorena's firepower, you have to give them credit for their fight. They competed hard and gave a maximum effort until the end of the game.

Let's start with the Lorena Leopards: [player_tooltip player_id='1360598' first='Jordyn' last='Ihry'] (#12) was included in yesterday's article, Next Level Players, which featured the top 5 players I evaluated in the tournament.

She was active in the scoring column and proved to be a legitimate 3-level threat who can get downhill with ease. Her defense was equally outstanding.

When we think of hustle plays, we usually think of diving on the floor for a loose or 50/50 ball. However, we rarely think about stepping up to take a charge. Most players aren't willing to sacrifice their bodies like that for the team, but Reese did. I even heard parents in the stands mention that drawing charges is a regular part of her game. The fact that she is willing and able to make those sacrifices tells you everything you need to know about what she is made of.

Bottom line: Reese is the type of gritty, high-IQ player that every coach wants on their roster. She impacts the game far beyond just the stat sheet and does the little things that help her team win in every aspect.

Avery's game has improved significantly since I last saw her play. She is a complete player who delivers on both ends of the floor. Avery racked up several steals that directly translated into points for her team, and she rebounded on both ends of the court. Her passes were crisp and right on point, which also led to buckets for her team.

Bottom line: Avery is showing that she's a player truly dedicated to self-improvement—and it was evident throughout the game. Coaches love to see that kind of growth, and I am excited to see her play with her teammates this upcoming season.

I have seen Journie play on the AAU circuit since the 7th grade, and the one thing that has remained constant is her elite defensive ability. Her on-ball defense is superb, and she fully understands defensive rotations. In fact, defense is her superpower. There is always a place at the next level for players who value defensive ability, and any program would be smart to take a chance on her. Offensively, she was steady, knocking down a couple of three-point shots and a clean mid-range jumper.

Bottom line: Journie is a lockdown defender who can impact the game without needing to score 20 points. Her elite defensive talents and steady presence on offense make her a player coaches can trust.

Shallom was the engine that made Fort Bend run. She regularly got into the paint with several strong drives to the basket, finishing through contact for a couple of and-ones.
Madison came up huge for her team during this game. She constantly attacked the paint with strong, aggressive drives to the basket, knocked down three-point shots, and fought through heavy contact to convert an and-one at the free throw line. Madison hustled the entire game as she rebounded on both ends of the floor.

Bottom line: Madison is a high-energy, versatile player who finds multiple ways to impact winning, proving that she can deliver when her team needs her.
