July 10-12 - Weekend Highlights

Teams from across Utah spread out around the country this weekend, competing in events everywhere from Las Vegas, Ohio, and Kentucky. With so many programs testing themselves against elite competition, there was no shortage of standout performances and players who elevated their game on a national stage.   While we couldn't be everywhere at once, we caught glimpses of several events and plenty of talent along the way. Here are some of the highlights, the players who stood out, and the performances that caught our attention this weekend.   <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Nike TOC - Las Vegas</h2>    Scoti was the assist queen of the weekend. She plays with a nonstop motor, constantly moving without the basketball and creating opportunities for both herself and her teammates. Her energy never seems to fade, and she's involved in nearly every possession.   What really stood out was her ability to get defenders on her hip and use that advantage to control the play. Once she gains that edge, she does an excellent job reading the help defense and delivering the ball to open teammates. Her court vision, pace, and unselfishness make her a true playmaker, and it's no surprise she finished the weekend leading the way in assists.     A new find for us this weekend was Lucy, who turned in an impressive performance for Storm. She consistently found ways to score, averaging 14 points per game while shooting an outstanding 70% from the field. Her efficiency around the basket and ability to capitalize on scoring opportunities immediately caught our attention.   She also averaged five rebounds per game, showing she's willing to do the work on the glass in addition to putting points on the board. With her size, developing skill set, and production at such a young age, Lucy has tremendous upside. As she continues to gain experience and confidence, she has the potential to become a major contributor for any team she plays on in the years ahead.     Jalise filled up the stat sheet this weekend, leading her team in multiple categories and impacting the game in every phase. She averaged over 10 points per game while shooting better than 65% from the field, a testament to both her shot selection and her ability to finish efficiently around the basket.   Her effort never wavered on either end of the floor. Defensively, she uses her length, timing, and anticipation to disrupt passing lanes, come away with steals, and protect the rim with well-timed blocks. She consistently finds ways to impact winning beyond the scoring column.    <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Run 4 The Roses Classic</h2>    Cailin is the definition of a high-motor player. Of everyone on the floor, she was the one consistently hustling, staying active even when the play wasn't directly involving her. She never takes a possession off and finds ways to impact the game through effort alone.   Even when her shot isn't falling, she doesn't let it affect the rest of her game. She gets herself into great defensive position, hustles back to stop transition opportunities, and applies relentless pressure to the ball handler. Her willingness to do the dirty work and compete on every possession makes her the kind of player who changes the momentum of a game, regardless of what the box score says.     Bell has a great instinct for stepping into driving lanes and cutting off the ball before the offense can get downhill. She reads plays well, rotates at the right time, and consistently puts herself in position to disrupt possessions.   What really sets her apart is her persistence when the ball is up for grabs. She battles for every loose ball, isn't afraid of contact, and has a knack for ripping the ball away to secure extra possessions for her team.   While her defense is her calling card, she contributes on the offensive end as well. She understands her role, moves well without the basketball, and takes advantage of the opportunities that come her way, making her a valuable two-way player.
