2031 Standouts at WMD Open Gym: Part 1

[program_tooltip program_id='1226083' first='West' last='Michigan Drive'] held its Open Gym on Sunday afternoon at Wellspring Prep High School, bringing together a talented group of players for an opportunity to compete, develop their skills, and showcase their game. The youngest group in attendance featured the 2031 class, with players working through drill stations before putting those skills to the test in competitive 3-on-3 and 5-on-5 action. There was plenty of talent on the floor, and several 2031 players caught my attention with their skill, effort, and competitiveness throughout the afternoon. Here are some of the 2031 standouts who made their presence felt at the WMD Open Gym.    Kinsley was one of the 2031 guards who caught my attention at the WMD Open Gym with her ability to create for herself and her teammates. She consistently attacked the lane, drew multiple defenders, and made the right reads to find open teammates for scoring opportunities. Kinsley also showed good chemistry in the pick-and-roll, delivering several well-timed passes to her teammates. She has tight handles and a shifty style that allows her to navigate through traffic, while her quickness was also evident on the defensive end as she jumped passing lanes and came away with steals. Kinsley added multiple three-pointers and even used her speed to track down long offensive rebounds. Her combination of playmaking, shooting, quickness, and defensive instincts made her one of the 2031 players who stood out at the open gym.     Avery was one of the 2031 post players who caught my attention at the WMD Open Gym with her presence around the basket. She was active defensively, coming away with numerous blocks and making it difficult for opponents to find clean looks inside. Offensively, Avery showed good hands in the pick-and-roll, doing a nice job catching the ball on the move and finishing at the rim. She also showed the strength to convert through contact and used good footwork around the basket to create scoring opportunities. Her combination of interior defense, touch, and footwork made her a standout among the young post players in attendance.     Sophia brought plenty of energy and hustle to the floor at the WMD Open Gym. Playing on the wing, she used her length effectively on the defensive end and came away with a few blocks by making plays around the basket. She competed hard on each possession and showed a willingness to do the little things that help her team, whether that meant chasing down plays or staying active defensively. Her effort and length give her some valuable tools to continue developing as a young wing.     Kourtney showed an aggressive approach on both ends of the floor at the WMD Open Gym. She consistently attacked the basket with purpose and showed the strength to finish through contact, including a tough spin move in the lane that was difficult to defend. Kourtney also knocked down a three-pointer and found opportunities on the offensive glass, using her effort to create second chances. Defensively, she came away with a block and continued to compete on every possession. Her ability to attack, score from the perimeter, and make plays around the basket gave her plenty of ways to impact the game.     Harper showed some nice offensive instincts at the WMD Open Gym, particularly with her ability to move without the ball and create off the dribble. She made a well-timed cut to the basket, caught the pass in stride, and finished at the rim. Harper also used a sharp crossover to shake her defender and create an opening to attack. Her combination of cutting, ball-handling, and ability to get herself into scoring positions gave her some good moments throughout the afternoon.
