2029 Prospects from Section 2: The Next Wave

As the 2025-2026 season gets closer, plenty of prospects are on the rise in New York's powerful Section 2. Many of them are already on the Prep Girls Hoops Watch List and are expected to rise into the rankings this winter. Here is a look at more of the top 2029 prospects from Section 2.    I saw [player_tooltip player_id='1897972' first='Jillian' last='Ogburn'] play for the first time at the "Battle of New York" at Impact Athletic Center, and it didn't take long for her to command my attention. She stood out right away. Ogburn is a pure scorer who can put the ball in the hoop in a variety of ways. She is a three-level scorer who has unlimited 3-point range, has a smooth touch in the midrange, and can get to the bucket off the dribble. She is especially good from the baseline and elbow. Ogburn has an excellent floater game. Her court vision and passing abilty is elite, both in half-court sets and transition. I am excited to watch Ogburn progress this season.     I saw [player_tooltip player_id='1897965' first='Dylan' last='Dechant'] play for the first time at the "Battle of New York" at Impact Athletic Center. Dechant caught my eye right away and was immediately on my radar. She is an outstanding shooter from beyond the arc with deep range. Dechant squares her feet well and has a smooth, quick release. She is a solid ball-handler with excellent court vision who understands how to find her teammates for easy buckets. Dechant is also a strong defender who creates multiple steals a game. I expect her game to rise to new heights this winter.     I have seen [player_tooltip player_id='1885359' first='Ariya' last='Viger'] play often over the last few months between the regular season, sectionals, and summer league. Viger is a player who contributes to her team's success in a variety of ways and just continues to improve. She had a major impact during a deep playoff run for the Black Bears. She is a lockdown defender who creates turnovers with her lateral movement, quick feet, and anticipation skills. Viger is a very good ball handler who can drive to the hoop to score or dish to teammates. She is an excellent 3-point shooter who is solid off the dribble or off the catch. She is a scrappy rebounder who reads the ball well off the rim. I expect big things from Viger during the 2026-2027 season.     Finding talented "Bigs" in the 518 is a difficult task, but [player_tooltip player_id='1884367' first='Camdyn' last='Dunham'] is certainly one to keep an eye on. For Dunham, it begins with her basket protection. Her 6-foot frame and long wingspan make her an elite shot-blocker at a young age. Her footwork on the block places her in the perfect position to make defensive plays. Dunham has strong post moves and is a talented finisher in the paint. She is a dominant rebounder at both ends of the floor, and adds to her point total with putbacks. Dunham can also step out and knock down shots in the midrange. She is a player with a very bright future.     [player_tooltip player_id='1885356' first='Guliana' last='Demarest'] is a player who has flown under the radar a bit, but that is about to change. I saw Demarest play several times for RCS, and her potential is clear. Demarest is a versatile player who can play both the point and the shooting guard spots. She is an outstanding 3-point shooter with a smooth release and deep range. Demarest is an excellent ball-handler and possesses superior court vision. The strength of her game is on defense. Demarest creates havoc on the defensive end of the floor with her quick hands and anticipation skills. She also runs the floor well and is a talented finisher in transition.     Olivia Guifree is a new player to me, and maybe to others as well, but that will change soon. Guifre has all of the tools to become a high-level player. Perhaps her strongest skill set is her ability to get to the basket. Guifre can beat defenders off the bounce and is a strong finisher at the hoop. She also features a lethal float game, both down the lane and on the baseline. Guifre is a very good outside shooter with excellent footwork. She also runs the floor well and is a strong finisher in transition. A lot more will be heard from Guifre in the near future.
