Lady Notes - Week 2: New Player Highlights

Sometimes the best peek at upcoming talent isn't found in the main gym, but in the auxiliary gym. While plenty of attention was focused on the headline games, we found several younger players making waves on the other courts and giving us a reason to stick around. These are some of the players who impressed and could be names worth remembering as they work their way toward the high school stage.    This is a player to keep an eye on. For Skyline, she was often the one creating the offense, and there were stretches where running more through her could have opened up better opportunities for the team. The next step in her development will be getting more consistently squared to the basket and under control before she shoots. Too often she was forced into throwing up difficult attempts rather than getting into a balanced finish, and cleaning that up could make her a much more effective scorer over the next year or two. Watch for her to develop and be a threat in the future.     Madilynn is a name we hadn't heard before this weekend, but if she doesn't rise to the top of the conversation at Copper Hills this season, we'll be surprised. She caught our attention by knocking down several deep threes—some from well beyond NBA range—and did it without looking like she was forcing the shot. Just as impressive was her composure with the ball. She ran the offense without panic, directed traffic, and looked comfortable telling teammates where they needed to be. That combination of deep shooting range and command of the offense makes Madilynn a name we'll definitely be watching.     A young player who plays with more maturity than you'd expect, she made smart decisions with the ball and consistently delivered the right pass. She also became a reliable outlet—someone teammates could get the ball to under pressure and trust to secure it and keep the possession moving. That composure should serve her well as she develops, and she could become a pivotal piece for North Summit in future seasons.     Amy suited up with the Eagles and helped take care of business in a close game, showing the kind of composure that should translate well to North Summit. With the Braves replacing some important pieces lost to graduation, Amy could provide an immediate boost. She's quick, plays under control, and isn't afraid to body up defensively, even against bigger players. That combination of toughness and poise should make her a valuable piece for North Summit this season.     Sophie suited up for Bingham JV this weekend and showed plenty of upside in her game. Defensively, she was consistently finding her way into passing lanes and disrupting the offense, creating problems even when she wasn't coming away with the steal. On the other end, she made the defense pay when it gave her space, knocking down multiple threes and showing the confidence to take the open shot. She already has some strong pieces to build on and could develop into an impactful player for the Miners once she reaches high school.
