Lady Notes week 3- Riverton/Syracuse

The Riverton Silver Wolves took on the Syracuse Titans in a preseason varsity matchup on September 26th. With both looking to push the ball in transition, this caused a close game all the way through. Both teams did great in their half-court offensive sets, looking to make one more pass to get players open. Here are the players to know from each team who impacted this game.      Hathaway is a very sneaky rebounder; she does a great job of moving while the ball is in the air to get around her defender and coming up with rebounds oftentimes before her matchup knew the ball had been shot. She did a great job of talking and directing in the backcourt of Riverton's trap and moved well without the ball to help continuous movement in the paint and get herself or her teammates open.     Jones is a very aggressive defender and steals the ball well in the front of Riverton's press. She gets into her finish well, attacking the defender's hip and using her first step to cut off the defender, often drawing the foul in the mid-range. She also does a good job in the transition of pushing her lane and forcing the defense to choose between her and the ball handler.     Scherbel was one of the key pieces to Riverton's defense; she rotated, defending the one through five for her team. A power two capable of boxing out bigger post players, but still being agile enough to switch onto guards when necessary. Scherbel will be a strong senior leader for Riverton this year as she talks and directs her teammates well.     Had a pivotal shot for the momentum of the game, coming off the bench and hitting a three. She has quick hands on defense and did a good job of tipping the ball away from players.     Syracuse has a very strong leader in King; she did a good job of maintaining her team's energy. Her quick hands caused turnovers at the top of Syracuse's zone, and she was able to transition full-court into the finish in a half-court. She also has a very solid mid-range shot, taking a first step quickly and getting around her initial defender with ease.     Does a very good job of reading her defender. She understands when to shoot or drive off of the screen and often catches her defender off guard. In this game, she had a nice corner drive and a baseline spin move into the paint. Burnett also loves a transition block. She was able to chase down players and meet them at the rim.     Sanders is a long guard. She pushes the corner well in transition and looks for a corner three. Her length definitely gives her an offensive advantage as she gets around defenders and one easy step or pulls up to shoot over their head     Brazzel reads her personal matchup well. As she develops, razzle is going to be a very confident point guard. She is a quick passer and sees the court and her teammates well. Her passes often caught her teammates off guard as she was leading them into open lanes.    In the end, Syracuse struggled against Riverton's press and failed to adapt their defense against Riverton's ability to finish inside and outside of the paint. Riverton won this matchup 34 to 30.
