She was one of the better defenders I watched, playing with a strong motor and a willingness to handle the little things. Whether she was boxing out, chasing down rebounds, or securing the ball and passing ahead, Smith found ways to contribute beyond scoring.

/

Husemann showed encouraging flashes of her potential during the second half of Game 1. There was a stretch of roughly two minutes when she made her presence felt in several areas, applying pressure defensively and nearly ripping the ball away from an offensive player. She followed that effort by running the floor, getting into position and received a pass to score in the paint.

Mattern entered the game ready to compete on both ends of the floor. Defensively, she moved her feet well and beat opposing ball handlers to the spots they were trying to reach. Her hustle also created a scoring opportunity when she collected an offensive rebound and immediately went back up for a bucket. That play stood out because she put herself in position to capitalize and acted quickly once the ball was in her hands.

Eickert stood out with her speed, particularly when running the floor on fast breaks. She was one of the quickest guards I watched with the basketball in her possession. Her quick shooting release was another noticeable part of her game, allowing her to get a shot off with little hesitation. I also liked her movement without the basketball. She worked to get open and remained involved even when she was not handling the ball. Her combination of speed, a quick release, and purposeful movement gives her several ways to contribute offensively.

One of the youngest players in the gym Spaulding delivered one of the strongest defensive performances I watched in Game 1. Her awareness stood out, especially in how closely she stayed connected to the player she was guarding. She remained attentive to her assignment and made it difficult for her matchup to create separation. That level of focus is an encouraging trait in a young player, and her willingness to commit to the defensive end caught my attention. Scoring often draws the spotlight, but Spaulding's defensive effort gave me a reason to keep watching. She is a player I look forward to evaluating further as she continues to develop.
