518 Superior Showcase: The Next Wave

Last weekend I hit the road once again, this time to Mekeel Christian in Scotia, NY, for the 518 Superior Showcase. About 40 of the best prospects in the Capital Region were on hand. The number of players in the gym was perfect for evaluating skills, as it made it easy to give each prospect ample attention. Here is a look at my next wave of players who stood out.

[player_tooltip player_id='1939487' first='Amirah' last='Warren'] is a player on the rise from Columbia High School. Warren turned a lot of heads at the 518 Superior Showcase. Simply put, she understands how to play. Warren is a three-level scorer. She is elite at putting the ball on the floor and attacking the basket. Her rebounding is relentless. She grabs the boards and finishes inside or kicks out to teammates for open looks. Warren can step out and knock down 3-pointers, or use her ball fake to get around defenders and pull up in the midrange.

[player_tooltip player_id='1897434' first='Helena' last='Molitoris'] is a multi-talented player from Our Lady of Lourdes. Molitoris may be 5'11,", but she can play in the paint or on the perimeter. She is a very good outside shooter with deep range. Her release is quick and smooth. Being left-handed makes Molitoris more of a challenge to defend. Her length and anticipation make her an exceptional defender who can create steals. Molitoris runs the floor well and finishes in transition.

Nalya Campbell is lightning-quick out of Marlboro High School. What she lacks in height, Campbell makes up for with speed. Her handle is outstanding. Campbell has superior court vision and understands how to deliver passes with perfection. She can dominate a game in the way she gets to the rim. Campbell's crossover and spin move are difficult to defend. She is always playing downhill and looking for a way to get to the basket. Her athleticism leads to her creating shots that are sometimes acrobatic.

Emma DeSilva is a talented combo guard from Niskayuna High School. She impressed coaches once again at the 518 Superior Showcase. DeSilva has a very soft shooting touch. She can pull up and nail midrange jumpers off the dribble or step out and knock down 3-pointers. DeSilva is a confident ballhandler with exceptional court vision. She is a strong finisher in transition and knows how to beat defenders off the dribble. DeSilva is a fierce defender. Her elite anticipation skills create a lot of steals, which leads to easy points for her team.

[player_tooltip player_id='1814890' first='Natalia' last='Gula'] is a multi-dimensional player from Niskayuna High School. Gula is a highly skilled player at both ends of the floor. She is tremendous at putting the ball on the floor and attacking the basket, finishing with either hand. She has a soft touch in the lane and an especially productive floater. Gula is a strong rebounder who can score on putbacks. Perhaps the strongest part of her game is her defense. Gula is an elite shot-stopper, using her long wingspan to protect the basket in the paint or springing out to disrupt jump shooters.
